Alan Shearer

Before he took iconic status at home town club Newcastle he plied his trade at Blackburn Rovers and what a spell he had at Ewood Park. Using Jack Walkers millions manager Kenny Dalglish prised a 22-yearold Shearer away from Southampton in 1992 for £3.3 million under the noses of Manchester United. Two goals on his debut set the tone and he want on to score a breathtaking 130 goals in just 170 games. He consistently reached 30 goals per season in a Rover shirt and it was his net busting qualities and partnership with Chris Sutton, dubbed ‘SAS’, that saw the club pip United to the Premier League title in the 1994-95 season. Sadly though was lured back home to Tyneside for a then world record £15 million just over a year later. Rovers never replaced him and have since been in a steady decline.
