Before the days of Fernando Torres there was another Spanish striker who prowled the penalty areas at Anfield. Sadly for Liverpool that was all he did as Fernando Morientes struggled to live up to his billing in Spain and underachieved dramatically on Merseyside. There were times when it looked like he would finally let himself go and use his undoubted abilities to the maximum and destroy teams. Despite that odd moment of sublime class he never really got started at Liverpool and soon became the subject of supporters frustration.
