Almunia started his Arsenal career eager to fight for a place in the team. However, over the past few years he has seen himself drop down to being the fourth choice keeper. As they like to joke on ‘The Tuesday Club’ podcast Almunia seems to be largely paid to sit around in Hampstead coffee shops reading the paper, as much of a joke as it may be it is also the truth. Apart from an emergency loan to West Ham earlier in the season the Spaniard seems more than happy these days to kick back on the bench and think about his impending retirement.
