Perhaps a tad harsh, for Aurelio can be an excellent player when fit. Therein lies the problem, though; the Brazilian spends more time on the treatment table than off it. Released and later re-signed by Hodgson, he’s yet to deliver on his potential on a consistent enough basis to warrant the time and effort. At 32 years old, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see Aurelio back at his Valencia-best when he was quite rightly considered one of the finest full-backs in La Liga.
