Liverpool are reportedly stepping up their interest in SC Freiburg right-back Kiliann Sildillia, with the Frenchman emerging as a key target to potentially fill the void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is being heavily linked with a free transfer to Real Madrid this summer.

According to TEAMtalk, the Reds have already made contact with Sildillia’s representatives to explore a summer move, which could cost them as little as £12 million due to the defender entering the final year of his contract.

Latest on Liverpool’s transfer interest in Kiliann Sildillia

With Alexander-Arnold currently sidelined through injury, Liverpool boss Arne Slot has had to experiment in recent weeks. Most notably, midfielder Curtis Jones has been deployed at right-back, but his performances have raised eyebrows – particularly during Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Fulham, where the defensive frailties were apparent.

While promising youngster Conor Bradley has returned to fitness and could soon reclaim the role, the Reds are keen to add quality depth and competition at right-back ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer rebuild.

Sildillia has become one of the top names on Liverpool’s shortlist.

The 22-year-old has impressed in the Bundesliga this season, making 16 appearances and helping Freiburg keep seven clean sheets. His ability to contribute both defensively and in attacking transitions makes him a natural fit for Liverpool’s high-energy system.

There is a lot of interest in Silidillia around Europe

What makes Sildillia particularly appealing to Liverpool is his versatility – able to play at both right-back and right-wing – which aligns with the tactical flexibility Slot is expected to implement at Anfield.

With no agreement in place on a contract extension at Freiburg, the club could be forced to cash in this summer rather than risk losing him for free in 2026.

In addition to Liverpool, other clubs are circling. TEAMtalk reports that former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, now at Marseille, previously made an attempt to sign Sildillia and could reignite his interest.

However, the opportunity to join a Premier League giant like Liverpool – particularly one set to be crowned Premier League champions – could tip the scales in the Reds’ favour.

A busy summer ahead for Arne Slot and his team

Sildillia is one of several defensive targets Liverpool are monitoring. The club is also reportedly keen on Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen and Milos Kerkez, with the latter seen as a priority signing for the left flank.

As the summer window approaches, Liverpool appear proactive and focused in their planning – aiming not only to replace outgoing stars but also to build a squad capable of competing on all fronts under Arne Slot’s leadership.

With Sildillia’s price tag potentially under £15 million, a deal could represent one of the smarter pieces of business in what promises to be a fascinating transfer window for the Merseyside club.
