Eccleston Match Report vs Carlisle

|

Nathan Eccleston 36th Feb 2010 – Huddersfield 1 – 1 Carlisle (League One) – Nathan Eccleston was involved heavily in the action once again as the Terriers kept their unbeaten home record. His first involvement in the match was on 3 minutes when he won a corner from which Neal Trotman headed just wide from Anthony Pilkington’s cross. The Liverpool loanee continued to show his qualities early on in the first half, taking on Peltier’s through ball after an excellent first touch but he slipped on the pitch, allowing the Carlisle defence to clear the ball. Eccleston showed his great pace on 18 minutes as he latched on to a Jordan Rhodes pass but he could only fire in a shot straight at the goalkeeper from a narrow angle. On 31 minutes, Eccleston again found himself running in on goal after a pass from Rhodes, but just before his strike on goal Richard Keogh got a last ditch tackle in to clear the danger. Only three minutes later, the 19 year old continued to threaten the Carlisle goal when Carlisle’s goalkeeper cleared the ball straight to Eccleston who tried to chip him but the ball landed just wide.

After Pilkington put the Terriers 1-0 up early in the second half, Eccleston was booked on 73 minutes for time wasting after continuing playing when he was called back for offside. Inside the last 15 minutes though, the young striker had two chances to seal the victory, his first when he took too long over a shot in the penalty area allowing Carlisle to make another last ditch tackle, while the second came when Simpson set Eccleston on a counter-attack, the 19 year old cut inside onto his left before unleashing a delightful curling shot that went just wide. Huddersfield would live to rue their missed chances as Carlisle equalised through Ben Marshall on 83 minutes. The Terriers pushed for a winner but there was no breakthrough. Liverpool loanee Eccleston played the full 90 minutes in another impressive display.
