Dani Pacheco Match Report vs Unirea Urziceni

|

pacheco v wolvesYoungster Dani Pacheco came on for Alberto Aquilani on 75 minutes and it only took him another six minutes to make an impact on the game. Liverpool had struggled to break down a resilient Unirea team and the lack of pace in the Reds passing had limited the amount of clear-cut chances they had on goal. The introduction of both Ryan Babel and Dani Pacheco from the bench changed this dynamic slightly and both were involved in David Ngog’s goal on 81 minutes which secured a 1-0 advantage in the first leg for the Merseysiders to take to Romania. Babel cut in from the left hand side and crossed a superb ball from his right foot, the ball picked out Pacheco who showed good awareness to head the ball across goal allowing Ngog to score from point blank range. It was not the only contribution from Pacheco on the night, Liverpool caught Unirea on the counter attack with a few minutes left of the game and the Reds had five in attack, Pacheco was unable however to control a diagonal ball with his head and the ball fell into the path of a Unirea player rather than a red shirt. It was a pleasing performance though from Pacheco and the crowd chanted his name when he came onto the pitch. Pacheco himself was delighted with his contribution:

“It was very important we won this game and to play a part in the winning goal made it a special night. It was a brilliant cross from Ryan and I managed to head the ball back for David to score so everyone was really happy at the end. When I came on the boss told me to play between the lines off the striker and then I went to play on the right side which I was happy to do for the team.”

Jamie Carragher also praised the performance of Pacheco as well as Babel:

“Ryan and Dani did very well when they came on and made a big contribution for the goal. They gave us a bit of a lift and more energy and that’s what we needed. They made the difference. Pacheco came on tonight and did well again. He’s a good lad as well and all of the lads get on with him very well. We are delighted for him to get his first team chance which he deserves.”

Reds fans will hope Pacheco can continue to improve and keep knocking on the door for a first team start.
