Four Players that Roy is already losing faith in

|

Lucas Leiva – Subject to increasing speculation about a move away from Anfield since the arrival of both Raul Meireles and Christian Poulsen, the 23 year old Brazilian started the season as first choice but has seen his first team opportunities reduced in recent weeks as he was left on the substitutes bench against Steaua Bucharest and Manchester United, and was only given a start in the Carling Cup with Gerrard, Meireles and Poulsen absent. Juventus and Inter Milan have both been linked with the Brazilian in recent days and if he doesn’t recover his place in the next few months, it looks likely he could be shipped out.

Sotirios Kyrgiakos – The Greek defender had a solid season last campaign replacing Sami Hyypia with a commanding  presence in the air. He has never been the quickest though and can be exposed if left one on one with opposition strikers. Invariably fourth choice centre half for Liverpool, the 31 year old generally only gets run-outs in cup competitions. Captained the side last night that conceded two goals against a fourth division team, and Hodgson may consider replacing him with another player in the January transfer window.

Daniel Agger – The Dane has been misquoted in the media apparently criticising Roy Hodgson, but it is clear that the centre back is not first choice with Martin Skrtel currently getting the nod ahead of him to partner Jamie Carragher. Willing to play anywhere in the team but he is not at his best when played at left back where Roy has had to play him in some matches this season. He is also, according to a fellow writer on this site, having Spanish lessons, which could have a completely innocent explanation. He has looked shaky in the matches he has played at centre back this season and there is speculation that Rafa Benitez may take him to Inter Milan.

Ryan Babel – The Dutch forward has been given until January by Roy Hodgson to prove he can make a big contribution to the team. Roy has suggested that he will utilise him most often as a striker this season which the Dutch international says is his favoured position. He apologised for his team and his personal display against Northampton last night so he will need to prove himself in the matches ahead that he still has a future at Anfield.
