Here’s hoping the Europa League can be a positive thing

|

Our last two home games against Northampton and Sunderland were meant to be kick-start to our season. They were meant to be the games where we flexed our muscles and sent a message out to the rest of the country about the danger that laid in wait for teams visiting Anfield. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out that way of course, and it is quite understandable that many fans will be worried that we’re heading for a repeat of last season’s dreadful form.

Even though we were being criticised for our performances prior to our games against Northampton and Sunderland, I never panicked because I knew that we were at least winning the games we were meant to be winning, like in the Europa League games so far and the home win against West Brom (who showed that their tough display against us was no fluke by beating Arsenal on their own ground). However, losing on penalties at home to Northampton in the Carling Cup and then dropping two points at home to Sunderland at the weekend really has set the alarm bells ringing around Anfield. We’re now under a lot more pressure to beat Blackpool on Sunday and I’m hopeful that we can use the Europa League as a kind of training ground to try new tactics.
