Hodgson: “We’d have been as happy as sand boys”

|

In a pre-match press conference before the Europa League tie against FC Utrecht tonight, Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson reflected on Liverpool’s start to the season:

“There certainly isn’t the gloom that you’d like to suggest, but at the same time I can’t say everyone is delighted with the start we’ve had – of course we’re not. We’d like to have been sitting there near the top of the table with 12-14 points. We’d have been as happy as sand boys. That’s what we wanted but you don’t always get what you want.”

Hodgson meanwhile rejected any link to Utrecht striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel, who has scored 13 goals in 13 games this season:

“There was no question of him coming this summer. You’ve hit me with a name that I didn’t know we were linked with. He’s doing very well now and having a wonderful time with Utrecht. But I’d be lying to you if I said he was a player we’d considered before this.”

  • Worried says:

Hodgson has misunderstood us, the fans, We expected him to “at least” steady the ship, minimum requirement. Hasnt done that. Of course we didnt expect to be top.But we also didnt expect to be near relegation zone either. Performances totally shocking.

Joe, go google it. Sand boys used to cart sand around and sell it. They were thought to be jolly and happy if they sold it all. apparently the happiness was actually thought to be intoxication!!!
