Is this the glimmer of hope in the doom and gloom?

|

In times like the club is going through at the moment, with the off the field ownership dramas going on, these are the small things on the pitch that might actually show that we are going in the right direction. Liverpool has been famous for its Pass and Move tactics in the past and I for one would like to see that return.

We clearly have the personnel to pass the ball well; we just need it to be a bit more attacking and more creative for Torres. Alan Shearer made a good point, that in the 1st half against Utd, although we passed well, a lot of it was side to side, if we can turn that into more attacking passing I think we could score a lot of goals and possibly even surprise ourselves this season.

I think the 3 players in our squad that will be key to bringing back pass and move are Gerrard, Cole and Meireles (who looks like a really good piece of business). If we want to stand any chance of doing something this season these 3 players are key in being able to make us tick. They will have to be the engine room that provides Torres with his ammunition.

So far we’ve had 5 tough games, all of which have been a learning curve, with a new manager and new players and new tactics it was always going to be a difficult start. But finally, all be it a small indication; against United it actually looked like the new tactics are starting to show and we can play some real passing football. With Gerrard, Torres and additions like Joe Cole and Raul Meireles we might actually be able to bring back Pass and Move.

I have to agree with this article. The link play in midfield was very impressive for 20 or so minutes during the second half at Old Trafford. It was a big ask to start an untested midfield partnership in such a big game but once they settled they looked quite impressive. Poulsen showed more promise than his previous outings and Meireles seems to have had no difficulty adapting. I think from an attack point of view there will be an immediate improvement but hope that some serious training is done on aerial defending of set pieces. I don’t know the percentages but this does seem our achilles heal over the last few seasons. Get this correct and I think it could yet prove a fruitful season.

It’s aqueakt bum time, already. The small shimmer of light will be shut out if we lose against Sunderland at the weekend…

Yes, i agree, we did look good in parts. Meireles adapted quite well, i reaaly thought we could go on to win it, but off came meireles (why, i don’t know)and it seemed to give extra imputus for manu to push for the winner. Still we have to sort it out in defence, we made Berbatov look good and it lost us the game. Konchesy can’t possibly be this bad again, Johnson is’nt a defender, if he was he’d still be at chelski, and dare i say it, Carra too slow and no other centre half is going to get out jumped by Berba.

The only real glimmer of hope is 06/10/10 when hopefully RBS finally put paid to Hicks and Gillett. Otherwise – its downhill all the way.Ryan Babel is useless
