He believes that Meireles and Gerrard are “interchangeable” in their positions suggesting they may become the two favoured players to play in the central midfield and attacking midfield roles. Of course against Man U, a defensive midfielder was needed and Christian Poulsen performed well to justify his inclusion but in such games in the future, who will be the first choice? Gerrard and Cole or Gerrard and Meireles? It is a good problem to have but it leaves Joe especially questioning his role in the team. Certainly he will start most matches but where he will play will be interesting question for the future. On the left side against Man U he looked on the periphery of play and tried to come in field to pick up the ball and get involved in the game. He has looked best in a Liverpool shirt so far playing behind the main striker and I believe if we are to get the best out of him he needs to play there.
In regards to Meireles, with him being a new signing and all though, things will take time to settle down, and Roy will find his best position in the weeks and months to come. Hopefully the manager can find a position that suits all three players, and our attacking play should benefit greatly if there is such an outcome. Cole’s creative spark could be very important to Liverpool and I hope he doesn’t begin to start regularly on the wings in the future for although he is capable of playing there, we might just lose the spark we need to get this team firing on all cylinders.

Should go for gerrard and miereles in the centre of midfield with joe cole behind the striker. I can see why roy didn’t go for that against united, but i think in the future that would suit most of the players.

Frankly JC is wasted on that wing. We need any of Kuyt, Maxi or Gj, or the kids (Amoo, Écclestone’ etc). there.
We could also use Cole as part of a Gerrard-Meireles-JC attacking trident to support Torres, Babel or Ngog.
roy wanted poulson in the midfield so other players like mereles and joe had to play out of their natural positions…joe should play behind the back of the torres cos this is where more of the technical ability is needed to escape from tight marking and closing in by defenders and and we all know joe is better than gerrard considering the technical side(close control) of the game..hes also very capabale of putting a throu ball to torres……..WE NEED at least 1 WORLD CLASS WINGER WHO CAN PLAY ON EITHER SIDE OF THE FLANKS…TURAN MATA ect…this is wher our problem really is…kuyt jova maxi is very average in creative department…i like maxi but hes out of form
