No guarantees but there are some good omens from NESV

|

The one thing that John W Henry alluded to on Friday was that the Red Sox were the second biggest spenders in Major League Baseball, thus assuring us that he will move heaven and earth to keep our star players at the club. This process began last week with the announcement that Jamie Carragher had signed a new contract.

Many supporters will be looking forward to the January transfer window to see if Mr Henry will splash the cash. Before we even think of signing new players, a lot of work needs to be done on the field of play. A glance at the league table shows that we are in a deep mire and with out off-field problems put to one side, we can now concentrate on resolving our on-field issues. This may well be a more difficult problem to solve as from what I have seen this season, apart from two players, we are currently a side that is completely devoid of passion, desire and more importantly ideas. This is inexcusable from a side that is full of highly paid Internationals who must realise the importance of the club they play for.

Whatever happens between now and Christmas, there are bound to be new arrivals in January but whether the current manager will be choosing remains to be seen. If he is left in charge, he may have to move on players who are not here that long and have been far from impressive (Poulsen and Jovanovic).

However,  the future looks a lot brighter than it did seven days ago. There is bound to be a feel-good factor about the club which will hopefully be enough to fire us to glory in the not too distant future.

if he wants to spend wisely, pay whatever is necessary to get rid of Hodgson and bring in Riijkaard or Hiddink.

It doesn’t matter what expensive players are brought in; they’ll all look crap in Hodgson’s system. Look at Torres ffs!!
