Roy: We need new players

|

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has welcomed the potential sale of the club to New England Sports Ventures and has stated the squad needs to be overhauled:

“We know what we’ve got to do, we know we need some new players, we know we need investment, and we know we are weak in certain areas of the team – these things have been the case since I arrived at the club and we haven’t had chance to put things right. What I ask of the fans is their patience, their trust and their belief, because we will get it right – there are no doubts about that. The club will be in a pretty healthy situation in general terms if the sale goes through.”

Hodgson believes the sale will go through:

“It’s very positive and of course I’m delighted. It’s been going on a long time and I know how hard the Board have worked to set things up. I know it’s not easy for them because the owners have other ideas in terms of the sale of the club and what is achievable. But I was delighted to hear the news and have it confirmed that it looks like it is going to go through.”

I think LFC fans need to grow up, youre no longer a BIG club, calling for Daglish to save you is a joke remember the geordie fans wanted their hero to take over and he took them down LMAO. Those pathetic fans who protest and the spirit of shankley group need to wake up take off their shell suits get out their council houses and get a JOB. I think it will be a good thing for LFC to get relegated, maybe then u scouse idiots will face up to reality and stop living in the past, YOURE NO LONGER A BIG CLUB.

  • st says:

Yes, we need new players. They must have guts to play for a club like us in order to compete with chelsea and other big european clubs. We dont need average players like Poulson, Konchesky

  • John says:

@theonlymvp Rant much?? I could respond with some well thought out arguments backed up with cold hard facts but they would only be wasted on a knuckle dragging bigot like you.

  • Who are you??! says:

Right Mr theonlymvp there are some major differences between calling for King Kenny or the Gerodies calling for Alan Shearer.

I for one thing am fully behind Roy but can undersatnd why Dalglish is being punted around. He was the last manager to win us the league FACT! dunno when Shearers last laegue title as a manager was, plus Kenny then went on to win the league with Blackburn Rovers. so thats that out of the way.

As for no longer a big club. We WILL ALWAYS be a big club, maybe not in terms of trophies but as a club were world renowned. There are only 8 clubs with global draw. or World renowned teams. Juve, Inter, AC, Barca, Real, Byern, Utd and Liverpool. Take yourself outside this country and you’ll see. i traveled the world for 8 months and all i saw were Liverpool & Utd shirts mixed with some of the above. Only English folk were wearing other teams.

I usually never comment on these things i’m happy with my own opinion. However your comment is right out there with some of the space cadet things Cantona used to say.

Dunno who you support but i’m pretty sure you’d be walking the streets in protest if two idiots did this to your club.

Bad management and lies from day one!

  • John says:

Roy, something tells me you aren’t going to be manager long enough to recruit any more dross from Fulham.

  • I hate manu says:

RE:theonlymvp -Not a big club yet you seem to have nothing better to do than read articles about us. Your a bitter sad case by the sound of it.

  • Alan says:

Why should we have aith in Woy? Because he won a ttle in Sweden and Norway?

No thanks, he’s a bluffer out of his depth. The results so far are a joke and are his fault. He is blaming others when it is him who is the biggest problem.

  • Jay Wright says:

More than anything we need a manager that tries to win games rather than being satisfied with any shoddy performance as long as the team comes away without a defeat. It doesn’t matter what players we’ve got on the pitch, we won’t achieve anything as long as the team is encouraged to retreat into our own half and play for a point.

Hodgson has already blown it as far as I’m concerned and I hope that he is replaced with a more positive manager at the earliest opportunity.

@ theonlyMVP – Dalglish was a legend as a manager not just as a player; big difference…

  • David says:

    But I need new manager.

  • Dennis says:

Hopefully the court backs Broughton and we see the LAST OF GILLET AND HICKS, then i think Hodgson should be replaced by one of these names:

    Gus Hiddink

    Martin o’neill

    Frank Rijkaard

And then one of these could sell and clear out some of the dead wood at club:

    Krygiakos CB sell for £1-£2M
Aurelio LB needs to be shipped out, he’s great player but always injured and mr injury prone, no point having a great player who plays 20% of season and the other 80% of season he is on treatment table. Sell for £1M

LUCAS CM/DM: Needs to be sold to Palermos, Inter or Malaga for £7-£9M so we can recoup most of the £9m our club paid for him, as he will never be in class of some of the great past centre midfielders we had at club: Murphy, Redknapp, MCallister, Hamman, Sissoko, Alonso and Mascherano.

POULSEN DM/CM: Average player who has come to premiership way to late in his career, he makes LUCAS look amazing and that says something, Lacks Mobility, Movement, Speed to break down attacks and Hodgson made a huge Mistake bringing Poulen to Anfield. He should be Sold for £3-£5m

Rodriguez RW/LW: Maxi was an awesome great player 3-4 years ago with Athletico but is way past his best and just like Poulsen has joined the premiership years too late and is struggling as the speed, tempo, physical demands are more than La Liga. Sell for £2m

Jovanovic LW/FD: A tireless worker with pace, but is struggling to adapt to the premiership and rarely offers side anything in attack and should be sold for £1-£4m.

Babel LW/FD: Player with Bags of Potential but his confidence has been shot and he’s not the babel who we signed 3 years ago, think he needs to be set free and given a new challenge in order to get back to his best. Sell for £7-£9m

Kuyt: Great Fighter, Worker, loyal servant but apart from work rate and stamina, struggles to unlock the best/top sides and think that he should be sold to Inter if they make an approach for him again in January, before its too late to get some money back on him. sell for £8-£12m

  • Mike Arms says:

If the sale goes through and all is settled by next week then Hodgson has until Christmas to get the team playing with some improvement. If not then I’m sure a new manager will be appointed in time for the transfer window.
We need to see something positive, at the moment we have nothing at all. We aren’t scoring goals, we aren’t creating chances, we aren’t keeping a clean sheet and we aren’t playing good football.
Hodgson is blaming the players for all of the above but the first 11 is a strong team full of experienced internationals. The problem is the tactics and the motivation which comes from the manager and coaching staff.

  • Dennis says:

Lastly NGOG: Good player, with some potential but we need some strikers in who will help Torres score goals against the best and poor teams and help assist others and take pressure off Torres. Ngog Should be Sold for £4-£6m

And then that would be 9 out, then 10 should be brought in: And with whatever is made from sales of the 9, the new investors should add £60m -£80m on top and let the manager reshape his squad and bring in players for now and future of club:

1:Gary Cahill Of Bolton should be brought in for £12-£15m to compete with Carragher and Skrtel to play alongside Agger at heart of Defence.

2: Micah Richards Of Manchester City should be brought in to compete with G Johnson for Right back Position at Club for £6-£8m

3: Taiwo Of Marseille should brought to club to be number 1 Left back at club and then for Konchesky to be his Understudy for £5-£8m

4: Lassana Diarra Of Real Madrid Or Momo Sissoko Of Juventus should be brought to club to fill hole Mascherano has left at club, we need a new solid, quality , world class holding defensive midfielder to protect back 4 game in game out, either player should be brought for £8-£12m.

5:Bring back Aquilani after his loan deal at Juventus runs out at end of season, then give the player a fair chance to show case his talents and prove his worth now he is injury free. should not be sold to Juventus, until he is given full season to prove his critics he is no flop.

6: Arda Turan Of Galatassary, Juan Mata of Valencia, Jesus Navas of Seville, Alexis Sanchez of Udinesse: All these wingers are blessed with speed, pace, trickery and creativity and would hold width on right wing, so 1 of these should be brought to club for £8-£15m

7: Royston Drenthe Of Real Madrid or Diego Capel Of Seville: Both these wingers are quick, fast, lively, creative, exciting, entertaining and out and out left wingers, either one would be a great addition to the club for £8-£12m

8: Lukas Podolski Of Cologne should be brought in to score, create, trouble defenders and to take the burden off Torres at the club.
Podolski offers speed, pace, good finisher, good team player, can play on left wing if need be.
He should be brought to club for £7-£10m

9: Gabby Agbonglahor Of Aston Villa: Should be brought to club as he knows premiership, is young, quick, fast, mobile, solid, is improving year by year and would be an asset to club.
He should be brought to club for £12-£17m

And then we could be a force again, Because we are short for competition in the full back Areas, we need another solid centre back in, we need another defensive enforcer to protect back 4, we lack speed, pace , creativity on either flank/wing at the club as we have no genuine wingers at club.

And Torres needs some help up top and some healthy competition for his place in side.

  • Mr Frome says:

    Some good points there Dennis

The only one I would disagree on is your comment on Momo Sissoko, I wouldn’t have him back.

    Cheers

  • TEE SOMETHANG says:

ROY WE NEED NEW PLAYERS YES BUT WE DONT NID YOU,DO GO AWAY PLIZ.I AM NOT SURE THAT YOU EVEN KNOW THE GOOD PLAYERS TO BUY EVEN IF YOU WERE GIVEN MONEY

  • Nath says:

Roy please go now. You can put out a decent first 11, but the fact is you choose to have them sit back and let shit teams dominate us is – well that is down to you. Your tactics are appalling and not suited to a big club. They are almost the exact opposite to Rafa’s, who has his teams pressing high up the pitch. To have us sit back with no control over the game is obscene. Come back Rafa.
