Spanish daily newspaper Super Deporte is reporting that Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is looking to seal a deal for Valencia’s Spanish international winger Juan Mata. According to the paper, Roy is waiting until the deal with NESV and John W Henry for the £300m takeover of Liverpool is finalised, before planning his targets for the January window, but if the deal does go ahead, Hodgson will look to Mata as a target. The paper also believes that Reds forward Ryan Babel could be used as a makeweight in the deal for the Spanish international. The winger has been struggling to negotiate a new contract with the Spanish club for the past few months and maybe allowed to leave if an agreement can’t be reached.

I think Mata would be a good addition to the squad and he’d sort out the problem on our left flank. And yes a striker is needed, can’t rely on Ngog when Torres is injured but we probably can’t afford Dzeko or Forlan
If it was up to me, I’d raid most of the spanish squad! Llorente is a great hold up man, they have a wealth of talent in wide positions and Martinez is an outstanding young holding midfielder. All areas we need to strengthen.
The chance was there to go for him in the summer, but that’s long gone – I look at this rumour as a puddle of p*ss
Even though we play a 4411/442, “we don’t play with wingers” so where would Mata fit in to Hodgson’s plans?? On top of that, how would he fit into Hodgson’s aging team – he’s way too young to be considered!
Moreover, Valencia are surprising themselves with their performances in La Liga and the Champions League, despite selling their two star players – do you really think that they’re going to break apart their team during the middle of this season by selling one of their current young stars for a middling transfer fee?? (which is all that we could realistically expect to spend, regardless of his contract situation)
