These are the Ramblings of a Deluded Manager

|

I am sure that I was not the only Liverpool fan shocked by Roy Hodgson’s reaction to the Derby defeat against Everton yesterday. Roy said:

“That was as good as we have played all season, and I have no qualms with the performance whatsoever. I only hope fair-minded people will see it the same way. It’s just unfortunate that such a good game of football, a real credit to the Premier League, will revolve round the fact that Liverpool did not win. It was a sterling effort by the players, especially after Everton’s second goal went in. Pressure builds up, of course, but we will cope with that.”

I couldn’t believe he was watching the same match I was. He may have an argument in saying it was the best we played all season, considering the absolute dross we have played this season, but to say we were better than Everton beggars belief. The Blues beat us to every ball during the ninety minutes and showed a desire and determination totally bereft from the Reds. We were battered for the first 20 minutes, and although we gradually got into the match as the game wore on, we never looked like scoring, despite the incredible amount of possession that the away team had.

I will concede to Roy that we dominated the game in terms of the amount of ball we had during the match, but if we look back at the chances created, the only real opportunity for Liverpool came for Torres in the second half when we were already 2-0 down. Other than that, we were restricted to long shots and half chances, with Everton looking comfortable at the back. They may have taken their foot of the pedal in the second half and allowed us possession, but they never looked stretched or run ragged at the back.

roy of the (high street)rovers is a ‘dead man walking’ as they say. you can tell by his interviews that he is out of his depth. don’t blame torres. he’s got no service. wouldn’t trust roy with a transfer kitty. the players are also to blame to some extent. but when out of position, with no service to fernando, what much can they do? they let rafa go, but without being careful as to what they would wish for!

The big thing is if i was Roy the first thing i would have done is found out why Rafa used his tactics?
The idea of changing everything defensively and in attack tells me Roy has no idea how to play to the teams strengths.
He seems one dimensional almost, and needs to lift his game fast.
I hope he does not see January the club cannot afford to let him waste any more money.

Before blaming the players, know this fact! The players are selected by the manager. They follow the manager’s instructions, if not; the get dropped. I remembered that Roy’s Fulham players mentioned that Roy does coaching with lots of on the ball drills and formations.
These players should already be good on ball skills, the manager should only drill on tactical formations.
I remembered an interview with Rafa. He videotapes all the games played and anlaysed it via the computer and see which player was not up to mark and how much running done by players.
These players are drilled to understand their roles and what they’re needed to do.
Clearly, Roy is out of depth! As in management, what works in previous clubs may not necessary work here. Players are different, more skillful compared to those in Fulham. If Roy gets to invest in new players, he will get rid of current players and get those who will fit his style. Then we are looking at below 10th position.

right now our best option is bring king kenny back in an emergency rescue to save the club from disaster!!!!

  • Cal says:

No Liverpool Manager should kiss Fergie’s ass. Period. Bring back Rafa, or let Kenny takes over before it’s too late. How many more games do we have to lose? He has old, stubborn, irresponsive and worse still, he still thinks he is one of the best. In the past several years, though we might not have the best players, we rose up to the occasion, we came back from behind. We did this with nothnig but commitment and passion. RH a man manager and Rafa a cold and distant figure? What an irony

  • Cal says:

Oh, BTW, Roy being good with the press? Yes, of course he has been such a joke, but pls don’t make the club a laughing stock to the fair-minded people.
    Hope NESV reading this
