18 points that could make or break our season

|

Following Villa, we have Newcastle and Fulham on the 11th and 18th; two of our few Saturday afternoon/evening games.  That alone should make these games eternally winnable.  The tricky one though, will be Newcastle away, so being the eternal pessimist that I’ve become this season, I would say a point at Newcastle and 3 points at home to Fulham as, like Villa, Fulham are seriously struggling (yes, more than us!) so 3 points should be a requirement there.

After Christmas day, we have Blackpool and Wolves on Boxing Day and 29th, followed by Bolton on 1st Jan.  Blackpool may well be an away game but I’d go ahead and say that that should be a certain 3 points.  Blackpool are renowned this season for being quite gung-ho, so provided we play it carefully, we should take full points from that game. I expect a safe, workmanlike performance, in what will be (given the game cancellation on Saturday) awful conditions with our superior quality showing through to win the game. As for Wolves and Bolton, they are both home fixtures so anything less than a win in both will not be acceptable. However, Bolton are having a fine season so that will no doubt be a tough game. It’s one that must be won though, no excuses, as after Christmas we will enter a fairly tough period and still have the Anfield Derby, as well as games against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, and United still to come. Our form over the next 6 games should give us an idea of what kind of importance those games will take on; a desperate grab for any points we can get, or points toward a strong second half of the season.

Over the next month, I believe we are capable of putting together a strong run and entering the New Year looking like a transformed side, with at least 14-16 more points added to our tally. Obviously, with the players we have, we’re more than capable of taking 18 but there is no such thing as a sure thing for Liverpool this season, as we’ve seen many times. Either way – given the volume of fixtures between now and Jan 2nd – the table is going to look very different for us come the New Year and could well decide what we’re playing for up until May.

A few seasons ago those games looked dead certs for us but now under Roy I can not see any safe bet to be honest.

Looking forward to the Newcastle game though as it will bring back memories of those classics a few seasons ago – 4-3, 5-1 etc

Fingers crossed that Santa delivers – come on lads its xmas and lets kick on in those games

Agree. Newcastle should be interesting with the news of Chris Hughton getting the sack. Wonder if Roy wants the job!!!

After 2days result i feel like cming 2 the newyear we wld b at 5 place jst 2points shy of Man city. And Chelsea on top of the table.
    This article is pretty good.
We wld surely take all 18 points or almost 16points. We shld hve a descent run with win’s. Comon Roy stick with 4-4-2 pls dont change the line up , the key to descent run in games is our midfield combo of Lucas and Merieles. Pls use Gerrard either with Torres or on RM . Pls. ROY it is time for u to gain some respect.

Pls tell ROY to leave Raul n Lucas in the midfield even when gerard is fit. Gerard can play behind torress or RM. What do u think.

The article gives us an idea of where we will be after New Year’s day despite it being just assumptions. Getting 14 or 16 points out of 18 would be excellent considering our inconsistency this season and I honestly think that this period will be very, very important. Looking at the teams we’re going to play, whether home or away, I’m pretty confident we can win at least 5 of them. After this period we will be in January and hopefully we can get a couple of top quality players who can improve our squad for the second half of the season. So starting this weekend, let’s see if we can get the three points at Newcastle and maybe the sacking of Hughton may help us as well.
