Why a “quick fix” is imperative for Liverpool Football Club

|

The transfer window is a day from opening, but it could not have come at a better time. Liverpool are in need of a quick fix, yes, a quick fix. While it is true that we need to focus on our long term future, it is also imperative that we finish in a respectable position come the end of the season.

The importance of us finishing the season in a top four position, means Champions League football, and with that also brings and immense cash injection. This will no doubt be an added attraction for big name players to come in as well as holding on to the ones we already have, i.e., Pepe Reina,Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard etc.

Therefore, in order for us to improve our league position significantly we need to improve our squad enormously. In doing that we need experienced quality signings in January. FSG  have reiterated  the need to bring in younger players, but it is important that these players have the requisite experience needed to make an instant impact at Liverpool F.C. Their  stance of building for the future may need revisiting. The future is now.

There are a lot of experience young players of quality been thrown around and if Mr.John Henry insist on keeping Roy Hodgson as Liverpool boss then experience is necessary. The January window for Liverpool FC is not just to build a squad of young talent, it must rather be used to strengthen key areas. If that means to bring in older players who will get the job done, well by all means do.

Regardless of who Damie Comolli decides to bring in this transfer window, it must be players who will make an immediate impact on the team. There are players in my opinion who can and will improve our team and there is no doubt that they can command a place in the current Liverpool first team. Players such as Emmanuel Adebayor; this player has shown what he can do in the Premier League, and still young, may be an excellent foil for Fernando Torres.

Karim Benzema, another young intelligent player with immense quality, if Hodgson and Damien Comolli are serious in using this transfer window as a catalyst to build a strong Liverpool squad then they should look no further than this man. Ashley Young must definitely be considered if the price is right. He clearly has all the abilities to become a Liverpool sensation. He should be considered at the expense of Alberto Aquilani. Robert Huth/Gary Cahill and Wayne Bridge should also be considered to strengthen our susceptible defence.

I have been a Liverpool F.C supporter since the mid 80's, I fell in love with this club when I saw the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes play. I hold a Law degree from the University of London ,and a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies.

I think we need 3 or 4 top quality players to come in and improve the squad. I would personally like to see us sign at least one winger and a striker. Hodgson and Comolli should be considering the likes of Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez, Eljero Elia and Charles N’Zogbia, not David Bentley and Wright Phillips. For a striker who would link up well with Torres, they should be looking at Edin Dzeko, Fernando Llorente, Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and Karim Benzema. It would pointless to bring in the likes of Robert Huth and Wright Phillips as these players will do nothing to improve the squad.

It is pointless keeping Torres and Gerrard, they no longer have the ability or committment to play for this still great club. Gerrard is a disgrace as captain also. Sell Reina and use the money to replace him with Ben Foster who has conceded less goals this season than Reina and the rest of the money to buy Nzogbia. Sell Skyrtel and Kuyt and use the money to buy Gary Cahill. If City will still bite take 50 million for Torres and use the money to buy Dzeko and Carroll. Sell Gerrard and use the money to buy Ashley Young.

kevin, i can’t believe you are still talking about a top 4 finish!!!! i’ll just be relieved to finish 4th BOTTOM under this clown irrespective of who comolli brings in

i would love to see carroll, and adam johnson bought, with hazard and some defensive cover. could you imagine opposition defense seeing torres and carroll lined up together it would def bring some fear to defenders who havent been afraid to see liverpool in their upcoming match lists especially with some quality wings running at em feeding them crosses

  • Frank says:

I don’t believe the new Yanks will put the kind of cash in that would bring these type of players sadly

  • TowsonTom says:

We Need a quality Left midfield player, right now I would settle for Aquilani, and spend the whole budget on Andy Carrol

  • Kenny says:

Liverpool made 3 huge mistakes in the summer. Appointing Hodgson instead of Dalglish and Phil Thompson and not selling Torres and Gerrard. It is obvious the rest of the squad are sick of the preferential treatment these 2 overpaid primadonnas enjoy. Torres is a disgrace, he couldn’t even score against Wolves.
