Loan Watch – What are Aquilani, Ince et al up to?

|

With many Liverpool loanees returning to their parent club in January, and a couple more (in Emiliano Insua and Philipp Degen) not yet playing after the winter break, there are only a few loan stars currently in action.

Alberto Aquilani – has not had the happiest returns after the winter break. His Juventus side have slipped to two straight defeats with a 4-1 home defeat to Parma and a 3-0 away defeat to Napoli. He made the assist for Juve’s only goal against Parma as defender Nicola Legrottaglie scored to get the home side back into the game against Parma at 2-1. Former Sebastian Giovinco came back to haunt the “Old Lady” though with two goals either side of half time. Hernan Crespo and Raffaele Palladino scored the other two for Parma. The highlight of the match had be Felipe Melo’s insane kick which got him a straight red card (shown in the video below). When will you learn Felipe?

Tom Ince – The young winger is really making a name for himself at League One Notts County. After already scoring one earlier on his loan spell against the MK Dons back in early December, he scored his second in his last game for the club against Hartlepool last week. It was a cool finish with the outside of his foot (shown below) and his father and manager Paul, will be delighted with his contribution on the loan spell with 2 goals in six games. Perhaps Ince could go on loan to another club in a higher division to see how well he deals with better defences?

El Zhar looks like a decent player at the level he’s playing there. Probably says a lot about those youtube clips on which some people seem to base whether a player is good or not so good.

  • Paul says:

That’s a bit unfair I’d say, the Greek league is not bad and Paok has done really well in the Europa league kicking out Athletico Madrid to progress to the last 32. El Zhar is a pretty good play imo, I think he has been unlucky with injuries and maybe just below the standard we require at LFC, but he never really had a run in the side so it’s quite hard to judge him.

Liverpool are making a huge mistake in not forcing Juventus to pay up yet for Aquilani before he gets injured, he has found his comfort zone in Italy. Tom Ince should be loaned to a Premiership club as playing at lower division clubs on loan will not help him in the Premiership.

I didn’t mean to be unfair, Paul. El Zhar looks way better than what we’ve seen from him at Anfield, but that clip alone would let one think if he’s the next Messi.

Loaning out Aquilani was a very stupid decision but of course, it was Hodgson who made the decision. It’s not even as if we have a lot of central midfielders. Juventus must think Hodgson is a clown for paying them 5 mil for Poulsen and giving them Aquilani for the entire season. I just hope Aquilani doesn’t get injured there and hopefully Juventus pay the 13 mil or we see the best of him in a red shirt.

I always thought El Zhar is a decent winger and PAOK is not a bad team and the Greek League is actually not bad. El Zhar suffered from injuries during his time here but Rafa gave him some chances and he also played well during the season we finished second. I was disappointed to see him loaned out by Hodgson since he never got a chance to prove himself and was even excluded from the pre-season trip along with Nemeth and Plessis. Hopefully he will come back a better player in the summer or we get some good money for him. This player I think can easily make it in the Premier League although I’m not sure if he can really make it at a top club like Liverpool.
