12 months of high and lows for our Unfortunate Brazilian

|

There was a big difference this time round in regards to Fabio Aurelio though. This season he has had the help of the new Sports Science department which was put in place during the summer. Under the guidance of Dr Peter Brukner, every player’s fitness regime has been tailored to their previous injury record, and with Aurelio’s injury list so long, Brukner and the team were extremely careful in how they helped the 31 year old recover fitness after his Achilles injury. Brukner said about Aurelio:

“Fabio’s worked incredibly hard. I think we all know he’s had a horrendous run with injuries in the last two or three years and he got injured again a few weeks ago. He’s worked very hard to get himself right.”

Since his return from injury, Aurelio’s body has been carefully managed and although his place in the team was more often than not taken by Paul Konchesky initially, the arrival of Kenny Dalglish as manager has seen the Brazilian play a number of positions from the start of matches. Again Wigan Athletic last week he played in left midfield as well as centre midfield after the departure of the ill Raul Meireles. When the team played 3-5-2 against Stoke, Aurelio played in an unfamiliar holding midfield role position to help out the Reds wing backs when they were caught out defensively.

All in all then, Aurelio has somehow revived his Liverpool career, and has managed to stay fit for a fair few months. Fingers crossed he can stay fit for a fair while longer and become an integral member of the Reds squad as a utility player who can fill in where needed.
