Newcastle ‘will not allow’ Liverpool target to run down deal

The Journal is reporting that Newcastle United will not allow Spanish left back Jose Enrique or midfielder Joey Barton to run down their contracts. Both Enrique and Barton will have 12 months remaining on their contracts in the summer and the Magpies would prefer to sell both players rather than lose them for nothing when their contracts run out. Enrique is said to be interesting Liverpool’s Director of Football Strategy Damien Comolli who is looking for a player who can fill the Reds’ problem position at left back while Barton has been linked with both Hamburg and Aston Villa in recent weeks.
