With Everton interested, what now for this 20 year old?

|

After making a substitute appearance early on this season in the Europa League qualifying round against FK Rabotnicki, he appeared in many other European matches including both games against Steaua Bucharest, in the 3-1 home win against Napoli and he started his first ever match for the Reds in the 0-0 home draw against FC Utrecht. He also made appearances in the Carling Cup against Northampton, where he missed in the penalty shoot-out, and he also made a late appearance in the Premier League back in November in the 1-1 away draw v Wigan.

All in all then, it seemed that Eccleston’s future at the Reds was looking up and to gain further first team experience he was sent out on loan to Charlton Athletic. He has so far impressed during his spell at the London club and after scoring as a sub on his second appearance in a 2-0 win versus Plymouth, Eccleston has become a regular fixture in the Addicks team. Playing on the right hand side against Peterborough, the 20 year old put in a man of the match performance as he turned provider for the two of the goals in Charlton’s 3-2 victory. Using his pace and skill, he crossed to both Bradley Wright-Phillips and Pawel Abbott who finished past Posh keeper Joe Lewis. Eccleston was also in the thick of the action in the 2-1 defeat to Hartlepool, coolly slotting home from a Pawel Abbott pass early in the second half.

With such performances, other teams such as Everton and Hull, according to Skysports.com, are reportedly interested, and with Liverpool recently acquiring two strikers in Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, is Eccleston capable enough of breaking through into the first team? He is certainly talented going by his recent exploits at Charlton but with his desire for first team football, doe his future lie away from Anfield?

    Quite frankly, can’t see him making it but at 20, maybe he deserves one more year. The guy’s got potential but if he’s good enough he’d be on loan at other Premier League clubs not League One. He’d probably make it at lesser Premier League clubs but at Liverpool I don’t think it’s going to happen. Also, Jay Spearing, at 22, he’s not going to make it so he should go in the summer. For me, the next generation will be Gulacsi, Kelly, Ayala, Mavinga, Suso, Shelvey, Coady, Pacheco and Sterling. I think once you get to 21 and you still haven’t forced yourself into the first team then it’s time to go. Having said this, Darby, Spearing, Irwin and Mendy can all go.

    agree; we are just famous for keeping hold of players that just are not going to make it, i make it around 13 players that are either out for long spells with injury or just over paid when wages and the clubs resources could be used to mcuh better effect.

    we have some players who are here for the money and some who are just nealry or over 30 years of age who are crap at best; for me id like to see the biggest clear out every with this lot gone;

    OUT;
    AQUILANI, COLE, POULSEN, KONCHESKY, NGOG, MAXI, AURELIO, BRAD JONES, EL ZHAR, INSUA, PLESSIES, DARBY, IRWIN, MENDY,

    WE NEED AT LEAST 6-7 MEW QUALITY PLAYERS;

    TEAM FOR NEXT YEAR WOULD BE;

    REINA
    KELLY CARRAGHER AGGER COENTRAO

    JOHNSON RAUL BANEGA

    GERRARD
    SUAREZ CARROLL
