Are there any reasons for FSG to delay contract talks?

|

On Monday, the Daily Telegraph reported that John W Henry has yet to open talks about extending Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish’s contract beyond the end of the season. The American owner said:

“The only discussion we’ve had has been with Kenny and that was solely concerning when we should begin discussions. I wouldn’t anticipate any further comments until such discussions have commenced and we have something to announce. Any reports until then are purely speculation.”

Many Reds fans, as well as former players, are asking why Fenway Sports Group have not yet offered Dalglish a contract. After all, he has made a compelling case for staying on as manager beyond the end of the season after turning round the Reds’ fortunes since the disastrous start to the campaign under Roy Hodgson. FSG are however not prone to snap decision making. They will take their time over if and when King Kenny gets a new contract. Only a few short months ago, there was a massive clamour for Roy Hodgson to leave the club but John W Henry and Tom Werner took their time over the decision, and deliberated over a number of days to consider whether they should sack Roy Hodgson. When they made the decision to part company with Roy they did it decisively and brought in Kenny as caretaker manager swiftly.
