Carroll on Bench and bet on him to score last at 6/1

Matches between Liverpool and Manchester United are always interesting affairs, especially this season with Man U looking to surpass Liverpool in terms of league titles (Team sheet below). After defeat mid week to Chelsea, the Reds could deal another blow to United’s league ambitions and give Arsenal a helping hand in wiping out the Manchester club’s lead over the Gunners in the space of a few short days.

The Reds will have to play a lot better than they did against West Ham last weekend though in a match where they were out fought and fundamentally outplayed. Let’s hope King Kenny and Steve Clarke have dealt with the issues that arose in that match and get the team well prepared for the match today. Motivation against the top sides doesn’t seem to be a problem for Reds players, and especially playing at home at Anfield against one of the club’s biggest rivals, will surely get the team out of the malaise they have been in for the last four matches. Luis Suarez will be crucial today if the Reds are going to get a victory.

The match will no doubt be a tight contest with one goal probably deciding the match either way, although saying that the suspension to Nemanja Vidic and doubts over Rio Ferdinand’s fitness could give Liverpool the edge. Players such as Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling are replacements the Liverpool front line should look to exploit. Although United have threats all over the pitch in Berbatov, Rooney, Nani and Scholes, the Reds always seem to keep it tight in these matches and it will be up to the likes of Gerrard, Meireles and Suarez to produce the goods at the other end. Match Prediction: Liverpool to win 1-0.
