Kenny: “He has been fantastic for this football club”

|

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has praised keeper Pepe Reina. He told Liverpoolfc.tv:

“In my opinion Pepe Reina is one of, if not the best, ‘keeper in the world. I know he doesn’t get in his national side, but it’s my opinion you’re asking for and that would be my shout. He has been fantastic for this football club and is a great asset to us, and that is reflected in that if Stevie or Carra are not playing, he is our captain.”

King Kenny also talked about the elbow that Andy Carroll received from Braga defender Kaka in the first leg:

“With regards to Andy Carroll’s impact, the biggest impact was what was asked after the game about when he got caught with the elbow from Kaka. I never saw it at the game, but I’ve seen it since and if there is no retribution from UEFA it will be a real surprise to me. That is what Andy will remember most from the game.”

This week it is former LFC WAG Jennifer Metcalfe!

Reina is only as good as the defence in front of him. He is totally overrated. Sell him for his 20 million buyout clause in the summer.

totally overrated? what have you been watching? The guys is as good as gold. There’s no one better in the EPL.

    • Paul says:

There are better shot stoppers than him, but not many who read the game as well, direct the defence, begin attacks, read players, know when to come out when to stay, etc etc. And when on form, he’s an amazing shot stopper anyway. He’s also a big presence in the dressing room, hence being vice vice captain. “Kenny” I just think you’re bitter because of his comments this season, but imagine they sack your boss and about half the people in the team you work with leave, including most of your compatriots, some world class players etc. Just his price of 20 mill for a GK should tell you something…

  • Kenny says:

mc-katsi; if there is noone better how do you explain the 36 goals in 29 games this season? Paul, are you really impressed with Reina’s form this season and last? You say I am bitter about his comments but his comments mean nothing to me, it is the club and the team that are important. You said yourself that there are better shotstoppers than him.

    • Paul says:

Last season??? Where are you getting that from??? Last season and early this season he was our best player. The last few months he seems to be a bit off form, but as I said above, it’s hardly surprising under the circumstances. He saw us offering half of what Suarez is worth and not budging, until the bid for Torres came in, and then Torres, arguably our best attacker left. Footballers are only human!

  • Kenny says:

Paul, who was the statue in goal at Old Trafford? Who was the goalie that did not wear a cap and gave away the goal on the first day of the season against Arsenal? Who was the goalie that palmed out a cross to Rodallega at Wigan? Who was the goalie that got confused by a beachball last season at Sunderland? Believe you me, I could offer more examples. Reina gets paid very well to do his job. Torres decided to leave after the Suarez bid was accepted because he was afraid Suarez would take his limelight. Even Fulham under Mark Hughes have conceded less than Reina this season and Fulham are crap.

Kenny I admire the fact that you are an avid liverpool supporter and if Reina has played 300 games for liverpool, I would assume you’ve watched at least 250 of those games, however I think I can safely assume that you have not watched the same ratio of games played by other top class goal keepers such as Van der Sar, Cech, Valdez, Casillas, Neuer, de Gea, etc etc. For that reason I also assume that you are over critical, and don’t give him enough credit when compared with other top class keepers. For example I have seen Van der Sar stand like a statue on many occasions but I still rate him as one of the best keepers in the world. I also think you should take into consideration the opinions of Kenny Dalglish (above interview), Roy Hodgson, Rafa Benitez, Peter Schmeichel and of course Arsene Wenger and Alex Fergussen (if the newspapers are to be believed)

  • Kenny says:

Paul, the only facts that matter is 36 goals in 29 games. Since Dalglish took over the 8 goals conceded and 10 points dropped in 4 games have left this club adrift of the top 4 and no champions league next season.
