TOP TEN Great Irish Liverpool Players

|

To celebrate St Patrick’s Day, we are going to take a look back at some of Liverpool’s greatest ever Irish players. We have certainly had our fair share of talented Irishman at the club over the years, but surprisingly compared to Scotland, the depth of players coming from Ireland is far less than I imagined before I started compiling the list. Still there are a few of our greatest ever players on the list and it can be said that Ireland has contributed some fantastic exports to Merseyside over the years, which have helped the team to some fantastic achievements.

Striker John Aldridge, winger Steve Heighway, midfielder Ronnie Whelan and defender Mark Lawrenson are all on the list but who came out on top?

Big mistake letting Steve Finnan leave two years ago. Very consistent and reliable full back, solid defending and decent going forward. Still only 34, Liverpool should re-sign him as he’s a free agent right now and give him a short term contract. With only one fit full back in Glen Johnson at the moment we desperately need someone to provide cover at full back and Kenny Dalglish should seriously consider bringing Steve Finnan back on a short term basis.
