5 Games Where More Is At Stake Than You Might Imagine

|

Champions League qualification is more than likely too much to ask for from Liverpool for at least this season anyway with Manchester City seven points clear of the Reds with a game in hand. The FA Cup finalist’s league run-in consists of games against Blackburn Rovers, West Ham, Stoke and Bolton and I feel as though there are not enough points to be lost by Mancini’s men for Liverpool to gain ground on fourth place.

On the other hand, fifth place is a completely different proposition.  Tottenham, in their seven remaining games, still have to play host to Arsenal whilst travelling to both Chelsea and Manchester City and, of course, coming to our neck of the woods to face the Reds. The other three games on their fixture list are West Brom, Blackpool and Birmingham, all at home. As you can see, there are points to be lost in those fixtures and if Tottenham finish the season fifth or even fourth, they will have earned it.

Liverpool’s remaining five fixtures are not, by any stretch of the imagination, a walk in the park. The Reds next two games are both home fixtures against Birmingham ad Newcastle, games in which three points is a must. After this, we visit Craven Cottage to play Fulham. No doubt a tough contest awaits us in the capital. Our final two games are Tottenham at Anfield in what could turn out to be such a crucial match and Aston Villa away which could also turn out to be a must win encounter. Five wins out of five is the only outcome that will suffice. It is also the only outcome that will ensure us a chance to battle for a European place.

Since arriving, Kenny has done a fantastic job since returning the dugout at Anfield and most supporters are confident he will be given the job full-time. We have set ourselves up nicely for next season, however, with one last push, we could finish on such a high note that the name ‘King Kenny’ will ring out on the Kop for years and years to come.
