The Exciting Diamond Quartet in Liverpool’s Midst

|

When Liverpool splashed the cash on Suarez and Carroll in January, most of the commentary on the deals was that Liverpool’s owners had panicked and didn’t realise they’d wasted a fortune on two ‘OK’ players.  Whereas the general consensus on each one of City’s signings was that it was a ‘statement of intent’; they were signing the best.  Watching on Monday night, you could see that Suarez and Carroll have all the makings of being an ideal partnership, ably supported in midfield by Meireles and out wide by the effervescent Kuyt.  A glance at City’s ‘front four’ and you saw three strikers (albeit, not at once) struggling to gain any understanding of each other and a winger that wouldn’t surprise me if he moved back to Spain in the summer.

On paper, you wouldn’t think twice about arguing that City got the better deal.  In reality, however, it seems fairly clear that Liverpool have come out winners in more ways than one.  With these four players, and Gerrard to probably still return in place of Kuyt, the future certainly looks bright.

And with news on Tuesday that Liverpool have possibly already struck a deal with Newcastle for Enrique – and with the returning Johnson and Kelly – support from the full backs should no longer be a problem next season.   It’s very promising; we finally have a solid bunch of attacking players, all with genuine, complementary qualities to build around, but let’s not get carried away just yet, there is a long way to go until the summer.

Arra come on, you’re supposed to win your home games, it’s the away games that make the difference. They outclassed, -muscled and -fought us at the City of Manchester stadium, let’s not get carried away here!

Also @sam, surely it’s the height of laziness to suggest that the solution to our problems is players we’ve already been linked with.

Try coming up with something new…

Otherwise, I can buy a parrot who’ll do your job but will make it more entertaining.

Sam , wise up you’ve named 5 foreigners there, keep the majority of the signings british based, players who know how to battle and granted well need 2 top imports from abroad, lets concentrate on the league and FA next season.

  • Neil says:

I wish people woild stop churning out the names of players who turn out to be great in footy manager games.

great win but i totally agree Damo.

this win does not excuse the fact taht we lost to west brom last week which seems to have been ignored and swept under the carpet

I think Gerrard is on the wane and Kuyt has only a year or two left, Meireles is 28, not even mentioning the ageing and injury prone defence. This rebuilding will take more than a year lads!

  • James says:

To Jack if we had one more good left back we would have never over extended our defense. Having players cover out of position places caused a domino effect on our defense. Glen lb, Carra rb, and Aurelio mid was the damage with players rushed back after injury hurt. We would have used some players less hence less injuries. a whole world of difference in our team with one LB, two wingers, and one CM I see no reason not to have a top four come back next season with a little more help.

  • teesomethang says:
