The Real Reason Behind the Departure of McMahon?

|

Segura above refers to the Scouse Spirit (no doubt relating to the Liverpool Way, a pass & move philosophy with a never say die attitude) as well as implementing new “ideas” and “concepts” to reserve team players. It seems as if that the reserve team level was something of a half way house between Kirkby and Melwood, not just literally but also figuratively speaking. McMahon and the reserve team coaches probably had their own way of doing things in regards to ideas, concepts and training methods and the Academy had no control of what sort of training and style of football McMahon would implement on his reserve side. Although they may have worked closely together, it seems as if McMahon was not totally on the same wavelength as the guys at the Academy.

Although I maybe reading too much into it, I wouldn’t be surprised if McParland & Co had talked to Kenny and the owners about the difficulties of translating Academy players to first team footballers, and felt that there had to be a clearest route possible to first team action. For Segura, McParland et al, reserve team football maybe an obstacle, a hindrance rather than a help to those trying to develop an all encompassing footballing philosophy at the club. The restructuring in the summer could well mean that somebody comes into the Reserves more directly associated with Borrell and Segura, and their style of football, or perhaps they want to do away with the reserve team altogether, and send their Academy players out on loan to develop them more quickly. I am purely speculating here but it will be interesting to see what happens after the season has finished.

This maybe a good sign that a deal may be in the pipeline for dalglish. movement on the backroom staff maybe a signal that he has the power to change so is looking towards next year and his ideas. Hopefully kenny will get the liverpool way back in where liverpool recruited from the boot room, this ensured the liverpool mentality was kept but new ideas of training methods and tactics where brought in with new up and coming coaches who will eventually become the manager. In our successful times the manager would change and tactics would be more modern, However the thing thst stayed the same was the pass and move style combined with a die hard attitude to never give up. If we can get this back then liverpool can be a force again and hopefully recruit from within in terms of players and managers.

I’ve always felt getting some of the youngsters out on loan is something we have lacked in recent years. There must come a point where a youth team player fully understands the clubs playing philosophy and translates that directly to his performance. When your at that stage, the only way to develop is meaningful match time and if it’s not in the first team, the next best thing is a loan to another Premier league club, failing that a Championship club, failing that you would have to wonder if the player has the capacity to make as a pro.
