Sao Paulo goalkeeper, Rogerio Ceni, last Sunday became the first goalkeeper to score 100 career goals. The veteran shot-stopper had long been the most prolific goalkeeper in history, with Paraguayan Jose Chilavert, having retired in 2004, sitting in second place on 62.
The feat achieved by Ceni – the third-choice goalkeeper for Brazil during their successful World Cup campaign in 2002 – got me thinking about other extraordinary footballing milestones. Below is an account of ten of the most remarkable accomplishments the beautiful game has ever seen to date.
