A Rising Star, but what would be best for him next season?

From such examples, it is hard not to compare the lad to Steven Gerrard. Such tags can weigh heavily on some players, and being called the “next Steven Gerrard” is probably not helpful at this present time, but there are certainly likenesses in their style of play, with a good passing range and powerful forward runs being the most obvious similarities.

So what does the future hold for Mr Shelvey? If the Reds do bring in another midfield playmaker such as Charlie Adam, the opportunities for the 19 year old to progress could be limited next season. A loan spell to another Premier League could be tremendously beneficial if this was the case. Experiencing a great deal of first team action in the top flight could be what he needs to show what he is capable of, and it could work along the same lines that it has done for Jack Wilshere who went out on loan to Bolton last season.

Failing that, if the Reds do get a Europa League spot for next season, the competition could be the ideal format to allow players like Shelvey the opportunity to play on a weekly basis against some good European teams. He has already experienced a few tough atmospheres such as the one in Naples this season, a few more next campaign could do him a world of good to increase his experience and develop his game.

What do you think would be best for Jonjo next season?
