Does anyone believe he is actually worth £35m?

|

But just look at the game against Tottenham where Carroll started: Liverpool were playing very well in the games before that, when Carroll was not in the side, but all of a sudden he comes back in and our game changes and we lose. I am not blaming the loss solely on Carroll but it is something we should look at, our game was not as good with Carroll on the field. Yes, we can look at the Manchester City game in which Carroll played and we did very well. I would hope that we can play more games like that with him in the side as opposed to our display against Spurs.

We have Carroll and he is a Liverpool player now so we have no choice but to play with him in the side and I hope Dalglish can do his magic and get the Carroll-Suarez partnership to work. But in hindsight, I still believe we paid too much for him and we could have held out until the summer and bought someone else. Just look at Sergio Aguero, he wants to leave Athletico Madrid for £40million, so if we were to put an extra £5million on top of the money spent on Carroll we could have a player such as Aguero.

So just because we sold Torres for 50m we can go out and buy an unproven and inexperienced Carroll for 35m. That’s the new Liverpool way of doing things is it. Carroll is a good player and will only improve over time but 35m for him is a joke. I know Kenny was desperate to find a replacement for Torres but in retrospect, how much has Carroll actually contributed to Liverpool’s cause? 2 goals against Man City and that’s it and his performances have been hardly impressive. Every time he’s played we’ve been forced to play hoof ball and abandon the pass and move football that saw us thrash the likes of Birmingham and Fulham. Carroll was clearly an one-off panic buy. Kenny and Comolli should have simply kept the money for the summer transfer window where more players will be available and for a lower price. Liverpool have made a huge mistake on signing Carroll for 35m.

How have we “been forced to play hoofball” just because Carroll’s in the team. I’d be willing to bet that he doesn’t get in the changing room and start lecturing players that he doesn’t want to ball to feet and would much rather battle for balls launched from 60 yards away!

Chelsea have had the best big man in the Premiership for years and haven’t felt obligated to play hoofball, just as Fulham don’t with Zamora in the team, and neither should we with Carroll. His power can be a massive asset to the team, if used correctly.

Maybe it was a risk that didn’t need to be taken (if we could’ve spent the money elsewhere before the window shut), but it was a calculated risk, not a panic buy

What a terrible piece of s***e that you are after churning out. You talk about aguero and he would only cost 5 million more. Would you then play suarez and aguero together? That would never work. Dalglish has stated he has been purchased for the future. So you are prepared to judge him over a handful of games when that is exactly what dalglish has asked the fans not to do. Carroll will only flourish in a side that players wingers and it looks like dalglish is trying to sign wingers in this transfer market. What carroll gives dalglish is options. If we need to play a big man he can now do that if he wants. Give the player time. Did he not play well and look dangerous in the game that he scored 2 goals? Cant belive you are prepared to judge him after so little time. Moronic pointless article

FSG wanted carroll’s price + £15 for torres. good deal.

  • hey to be honest our big number 9 is little bit overpriced bt we have a long contract with him and before he got dat ingury he was flying high just score goal for fun rememba he score against us a good goal and so if you look for the future the big man will be our main man and he is great player so these tactical analysis of just few games and try to judge him in almost 9 games its nonsense coz he has already prove it is good striker and he still develope and learn the liverpool way whch require a striker to perform in dependence of midfield player

  • Jamm says:

everyone knows he wasn’t worth £50mil but the deal was that Chelsea would pay £15mil more for Torres than the price we got Carroll for.

Because it was a last minute deal we had to pay over the odds to get him but that didn’t matter to us as it was Chelsea who stumped up the extra.

Can we move on from this story now…

  • Vincent says:

Surely what John Henry said about the transfer is relevant here

“The negotiation for us was simply the difference in prices paid by Chelsea and to Newcastle. Those prices could have been £35million [from Chelsea for Torres] and £20million [to Newcastle for Carroll], 40 and 25 or 50 and 35. It was ultimately up to Newcastle how much this was all going to cost. They [Newcastle] made a hell of a deal. We felt the same way.”

  • Dave says:

You’re assuming that a player’s price is dictated solely by how good they are at playing football. Whereas you also have to consider a huge number of other variables (not all of which are relevant to the Carroll transfer)… e.g. length of contract, existance of buyout clause, need of selling club to raise funds, need of buying club for a player, the price of other similar players that are available, etc.

In our case, I believe that we had a need for a player, but also perhaps a greater need for our owners to show intent. To show that we weren’t going to allow one of our best players to leave, without replacing him with somebody who has the potential to be just as good/better. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ambition of the Carroll signing, helped convince Reina to stay. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it helps us to attract other star names.

Essentially, I feel that your question is one dimensional, and not very well thought out.

  • stan howard says:

the biggest problem with andy carroll is trying to think of a song that fits his name.

  • SoulBoyMystic says:

I think luis suarez is now worth 50Million.. and I think his presence and skill will improve Carrolls overall game.. and also up his worth..

great business!! Kenneth ya wee glaesga canny lad!
