On his way to Anfield? We may find out soon enough

|

Still, unlike many other left backs out there at the moment, Enrique could be available reasonably cheaply considering his contract situation. Newcastle are said to be demanding £15million but there is no way that any club will be offering that amount. An offer between £4m and £8m is more likely to be on the cards.

There are certainly better left backs out there but many of the options available are either overpriced or not experienced enough to play in the Premier League. Fabio Coentrao is valued at €30m, Lyon’s Aly Cissokho around €20m, while Emilio Izaguirre is rated £10m+ by his club Celtic despite not yet proving himself in a big European league. Other options such as Leighton Baines and Gael Clichy really depend on the circumstances at their clubs.

To summarise then, despite watching the player a fair few times, I am still unconvinced about Enrique, but on the other hand, relative to other full backs currently on the market, he could be the best value for money. What do you think?

Enrique is a talented player, no question. But is he 15m worth? I have to say no way, especially as he is coming into his last 12 months of the contract he is on now. He would be a solid player but not convinced he’d be one to get overly excited about. When we first signed Johnson we had issues about the fact he was great at going forward but not an ultra solid defender and I fear we could have the same doubts over Enrique. But then, if anyone can bring out the very best in him it’s Kenny and Steve Clarke. I trust their judgement.

Cast your mind back a few years to when you stole Alan Kenedy from us. You wer,nt getting anything particularly exciting then either but you got the best L/B in the country then also. It,s not all about excitement. A back,s job is to be stoic, to always be in the right place when required and to win the ball when needed. these are qualities we don,t want to lose in Jose, so pardon the geordie,s if we try to hang on to him.
    HWTL.

And what differencedoes the last year of his contract make. He,s only 25 for goodness sake and your investing in his talent, not buying out his contract.

Put simply the fact Enrique’s contract has 12 months left puts the player in a very strong position, if he isn’t given what he wants he announces he’s turned down your deal and then you have a choice keep a player who is unhappy, paying him wages and run the real risk of him going for nothing or accept a bid which will be lower than what you’d value the player at.Surely you can follow that logic.

  • JerseyGeordie says:

You lot cant afford him. Move along…

    • TRexRed says:

I appreciate you want to keep him but if you think we haven’t got enough money then you have obviously been in living in a cave for a year! With all due respect we could probably buy your club with our transfer budget!!!!

    • zahid says:

More like NUFC can’t afford to keep him

  • nawi says:

get Scott Dann, James McCarthy, Charlie Adam, Downing, Elia, Enrique

  • m kop says:

15 mil. is too much, 10 is most I would spare for a left back.

If Liverpool had better wingers one full back position would not pose that much of a problem, maybe Liverpool could give their young players more chance rather than feel obligated to spend more than the actual worth of a player.

Wenger developed Clichy when Cole left so why Liverpool would be unable to do that, they have already started it last season playing Flanagan and Robson on full back positions, not to mention Kelly and Insua who can also fill that role.

I’d concentrate on bringing players under 25 years of age, proven players, wingers Liverpool so desperately needs, and give some younger players Liverpool has a chance to show what they can do
rather than bringing any older players.

    • OZRed says:

Well said m kop. I’d love to see either Flanagan or Robinson given a chance. Unless the LB they’re bringing in is someone like Coentrao, who is an experienced international and will add to the qualities of the team, 10 mil is more than enough for a good LB.

  • Ben Dover says:

No thank you, bloke can’t defend & Guitierez makes his attaching look good.

  • zahid says:

Hes a good player and proven Premiership pedigree, but is he worth 15 mill NO!!

We shouldn’t pay no more then 8 million

  • JerseyGeordie says:

You’ll never match his wages and where is all this money coming from?
You lot didn’t spend a dime in January and you are in for a surprise this summer…,

    • zahid says:

Lol @ in for a shock you clueless geordies are the ones in for a shock after seeing your best players leave, Bartons gone, Enrique on his way, Nolans next followed by Guttierez and i don’t see Ireland staying either.

Where are we getting the money from? investors thats where we have John Henry And Werner along with 10 other investors, plus the 20 mill a season coming from Standard Chartered plus revenue the club makes through ticket sales etc and soon to have money from Warrior Sports and Honda motorbikes. The only way is up for us and down for you Geordies unless that fat twat Cashley pisses off
