Is his place in the side in serious jeopardy?

|

This is in no way a criticism of Kuyt’s position in Liverpool’s first XI as I would love to see the Dutchman keep a spot in the selection. The problem is, which position will he be occupying. Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll look set to form a mean partnership for the next few years, meanwhile we have a midfield that needs to accommodate Meireles, Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, at least one new winger and Dirk Kuyt. One positive Kuyt has going for him is that he can play in both the right midfield role and up front, meaning that he should still see a decent amount of game time next season. Against strong opposition I still expect the Dutchman to figure on the right of midfield due to his lung busting stamina, while in other games he can fill in up top for either Suarez or Carroll as our third choice striker.

Whatever happens I expect Dirk Kuyt to persevere as usual next season and show why to this day he remains a key first XI player for both Liverpool and the Netherlands. If as expected, he does spend slightly more time on the bench, it will only mean good things for Liverpool’s overall squad depth as it will take a hell of a player to squeeze Kuyt out of the team.

  • Edwin says:

NO he will be ok because wh can play as a forward and his work rate will be missed if he is not in the squad. Image him up front with LS and AC or coming off the bench. Options, options options

  • Tony says:

Isn’t it nice to have problems like this? 🙂

  • Paul says:

All depends upon who we’re playing, I expect to not see the same 11 or even the same formation week after week, he’ll play right, then centre forward and sometimes from the bench, all good teams do this. Man Utd had Rooney, Chicarito, Owen, Berbatov etc, they didn’t all start every game but all stayed fit all season.

Two good players for every position!!

Totally agree, as you can play with the same 11 and the same
formation against different teams? me seems illogical. I’d like to
Georgian Wijnaldum, young, and very skilled with the ball, quick and
intelligent and cost no more than 10 million.

Better to have your place in the starting line up be put in jepeordy than not to win anything in all seasons playing at Liverpool.

I wouldn’t worry about Kuyt do, players like him alwayes find way to get in to a starting line up.
He is hardworking, versatile, he can play up front or at the wing, I bet he can even be better full back than most in PL.

  • Dan says:

wouldn’t worry about it I figured this one out ages ago:

    Suraz…Carrol…Kuyt

    M’ls..Lucas..Gerrad..Maxi..Hondo..Adam

    Skirtel or Carra

    Reina

Don’t worry about Subs for Midfield we have: Downing,Spearing, Shelvy (maybe on loan though, Poulson, Aqua and Ince, Kohlert or Roberts (if we need them can be called up from youth)

  • daboy says:

He will play plenty i have no doubt but it is the central mids that have worries there is going to be a reshuffle there.

  • Dan says:

well here we go: talk sport claims Inter are making a bid for Meireles at around 14 Mill. re-shuffle about to start

  • donratty says:

i think wd tym he will elimin8 carol 4rm da starting line up. He understands prince suarez style of play than carol. Ac is too slow, no flair n ball control. Lets pray ac regain his form come nxt season. YNWA

  • legal scousers says:

Sergio Aguero is coming to liverpool in july
his agent was in melwood and talks going on with
Athletico Madrid at this moment !
    price been agreed

  • gerard says:

kuyt is a reliable player, and Kenny Dalglish will be happy to have him ready whenever his service is required. It’s difficult to have very good players who stay on bench and still have the mentality to fight for the team.

  • Bill says:

talk sport talk utter crap claims Meireles is not for sale.

  • David Tyrer says:

For a minute there, when I saw the headline, I thought this was referring to the pictures of him with two Brazilian women in the papers yesterday!

  • michael says:

dirk will be fine under kenny he’s found a bit of a touch and regaining his eye for goal. hopefully we wont need him on the wings but if suarez or carroll are out dirk will be in. if we wana win the league dirk, carra and even stevie will spend more time on the bench their the veterans now and cant be expected to do it week in week out.

  • xx says:

Kuyt-Suarez partnership was a mouth watering one. never doubt Kuyt, we bought carroll n evry one said Kuyt’ time was over. but we know what happened, dont we

  • Jay Wright says:

Hopefully the team finally switches to 433/4231 which would then see Kuyt relegated to 3rd choice striker behind Carroll and Suarez, with another couple of wingers/widemen being brought in to suplement the attack and replace Maxi, Cole and Jovanovich as our wideforwards
