Is the future looking bleak for our number 26?

|

At the risk of sounding sensationalist, next season could be a make or break year for Jay Spearing. He’s shown that the talent is there, and it is now time for him to show that he can use that talent to improve as a player.

With Liverpool currently looking a bit overstaffed in the midfield area I believe that it would be most beneficial for Spearing to gain regular match time on loan next season. As I mentioned before, we have nothing to lose. If he does well, we can consider him for our future plans as a reliable squad member. If he doesn’t do well enough to hold down a place in Liverpool’s squad we can sell him for a decent fee. Being out on loan often reveals a lot about where a player’s career is heading, and I’m hopeful that Jay Spearing can go on to give Kenny Dalglish even more of a selection headache when it comes to Liverpool’s midfield.

Whether he has the ability to make it at Liverpool remains to be seen, but a full season of Premier League appearances for a smaller club would no doubt reveal a lot about Spearing’s character and his chances of succeeding at this level.

Wouldn’t really bode well for this ‘young english is the future’ that seems to be the way at LFC ? Which ‘young english stars’ would want to join knowing that local players don’t get their chance?
Why the need to spend £50 mil plus and move out players like Spearing and Shelvey???

Pointless and sending the wrong message out. NO wonder players will choose ManUre and Arseandall ahead of us.

add to that the belief that if at 22 he can’t be used at home then why in Hell do we have him? It would appear that he is not wanted.

He shouldn’t have been playing for LFC, tbh. Sorry, but he is just not good enough for a CL contender. At 22, he never played for any English youth team, which, to be fair, is a mediocre force in European age level tournaments.

His contract was renewed/extended only because of being English. I see him loaned in coming January.

i wonder what is happening in this club what is the problem witt them we need the young players to be always around because of next year transfer policy it will be hard for us to buy players so in my own opinion i hope we dont sell spear for he is a good player but we need wingers left back one midfielder and keeper one striker

The only reason Jay Spearing is still at Liverpool is because he is a Scouser. His hard work and commitment does not make up for his lack of quality. Spearing is an average Premier League squad player at best and is just not good enough for Liverpool. He is mediocre and offers way too little in midfield. On top of that, he has never even represented England at youth level and if he still needs to go out on loan at 22 then it is highly unlikely that he will ever make it. Spearing’s lack of quality is apparent and needs to be sold because with average at best players like him, Liverpool will never win the Premier League.

A bit harsh that Eric, I can’t see Jay going anywhere, O.K. next season is likely to be a quiet season as far as the number of games played goes but we are hopefull that the season after will have a European element to it, when we may need to have a full squad at our disposal. By then Jay will be 24 still as commited but better equipped. As Jonh Henry says its the long term we are looking at.

Having watched him last season for a fair amount of games when you were on TV, I’d have to say I don’t think he’s good enough for you in the slightest. He wouldn’t meet my own team’s standards of technical ability (with us being a passing team) and with you aiming for the top four I really don’t think he’s the type of player you need to progress.

I hope Henderson replaces him pretty quickly, whilst he wasn’t amazing at the Euros he began to show some good instinctive passing in the later games that was far beyond what the other midfielders in the England team could produce.

Jay is a fighter – write him off at your peril
