Six Reasons Why He May Depart The Club

|

3) Injury problems: Something he has struggled with throughout his career – but having a full season and a pre-season under his belt should surely have convinced either Juventus or Liverpool to give him a shot.

4) Price/Contract dispute: Juventus may not be willing to match his price or pay his wages, but surely the players desperation is such that a deal could be brokered. And from Liverpool’s point of view, having signed the player on a 5 years deal with his resale value seemingly not great, why wouldn’t they let him have a chance at proving himself? He couldn’t do worse than Joe Cole or Jovanovic!

5) Homesickness / Family issues: Since he came willingly to Anfield and only played a few games at the end of his first season, it seems strange that he would be desperate to return to Italy so soon.

6) Agent Mischief: Perhaps Aquilani just wants to play football, and has left in it his agents hands to get him playing. And his agent, wanting to get the best deal for himself, is stirring up a lot of controversy and speculation.

Whatever the reason, it seems unlikely that this drawn out saga will continue beyond this summer, with Kenny and FSG looking to wrap up all the loose ends in a bloated and overpaid squad. I, personally, would love to see Aquilani get a season (albeit from the bench) to try and establish himself. In short, it looks to me like 2 out of the trio of Aqulani, Adam and Meireles will bear the creative burden in the Liverpool midfield next season.

I’m certain the main issue is his wages and the risk factor. No manager wants his chairman or football director to come to him and ask why he’s paying such high wages for a guy who’s not performing to the level expected or always injured.
