Dalglish probably looked at the fact that we already have a young hot striking prospect in the form of Adam Morgan and thus we do not need another young striker who we would have to rely on if Suarez and Carroll are injured. What Liverpool need is another fairly experienced and talented striker to come in as back up.
If Suarez or Carroll were to have a long term injury where they sit out for three months, I do not think Wickham is ready to fill in that role and be our go-to-striker. We have seen this with David Ngog, he never really delivered when called upon and thus we need someone of a higher caliber to come in.
Liverpool are setting out to buy the best young talent in Britain and Wickham is in that bracket but we have let him go. There is surely a reason we did not pursue Wickham with more aggression.

well, according to sky sports news (a very reliable source, you would accept) we DID go for wickham but HE chose sunderland ahead of us!
Frankly LFC couldve signed him but the likelyhood is he wouldve been left on the bench and that alone could kill his career before it truly gets off the ground.
LFC will still benefit from Wickham going to SAFC as they still have a refusal opton to buy later on SHOULD Wickham fullfill his potential at SAFC.
And to be honest if he does use SAFC as a stepping stone to advance his career then LFC may well benefit later should he become the player his potential states he could be.
As for paying over the top didnt we do that with Henderson BUYING his potential playing ability only difference being hes had season or two in the prem
It’s a great relief Liverpool did not buy Wickham. We are talking about 12m for an 18-year-old guy who has never played in the top flight before. His goalscoring record at Ipswich was hardly impressive. Liverpool must stop paying over the odds for overrated British guys.
you are an idiot most of his appearances were from the bench in previous seasons, last season he missed the start with injury and scored his 9 goals last season in the final couple of months,He is incredibly skillful and he is big and strong and very difficult to get off the ball why don’t you educate yourself before you slag people off,
Liverpool doesn’t need Wickham, young wingers should be priority!
