The Finest Moments from the 2010/11 Season

|

Wolves end Manchester United’s unbeaten run

Could Manchester United go the whole 2010/11 season unbeaten? Well they failed, but they gave it a right good go. Their unbeaten run is one of the reasons they will lift the Premier League trophy at Old Trafford on Sunday but all credit to Wolves who took a massive scalp in their quest for Premier League survival. Nani gave United the lead but goals from George Elokobi and Kevin Doyle gave Wolves a famous win which ended Manchester United’s 29 game unbeaten record.

The Wayne Rooney transfer saga

Well who saw that coming? It took everybody by surprise but after Wayne Rooney’s miserable World Cup and his rather public misdemeanour’s, who could have blamed the Manchester United striker for wanting to leave England? The rumours were flying around as to where Rooney would move to but then came one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s finest moments. He gave a passionate interview on the eve of Manchester United’s Champions League group game with Bursaspor. Without doubt one of his best performances, a performance that put the ball well and truly in Rooney’s court. Rooney subsequently apologised to his manager and fans, and a new bumper contract followed.

Newcastle’s remarkable comeback

This might go down as one of the greatest Premier League comebacks of all time. Arsenal had the game ‘won’; they were cruising 4-0 at half time and Newcastle fans were leaving the stadium. Second half: Cue on the greatest comebacks of all time. You could see how nervy Arsenal were once Newcastle poulled a goal back. Wave after wave of attacks from Newcastle were coming at Arsenal and they did not have a leader in their ranks to calm things down. Cheik Tiote’s superb last minute strike gave Newcastle the unlikeliest of points.
