No doubt, most Reds fans would have a problem with Maxi leaving if replacements were brought in who were both better and younger. That is currently not the case, and with the Reds seemingly only pursuing one winger target in Stewart Downing, currently we are still in need of Maxi’s services.
I can understand Maxi’s desire to return home, and his desire is probably particularly strong during the current off season when he returns to Argentina, but we can’t allow the player to go for less than he is worth. Like most Argentine clubs, Newell’s Old Boys are not in the financial position to be able to pay the transfer fee which we’ll demand for Maxi, and I don’t see how a move would materialise unless the winger holds out for a transfer.
Hopefully we won’t have the same sort of situation that Manchester City are having with Carlos Tevez, and I am sure that Spanish speaking players such as Luis Suarez and Pepe Reina will talk to Maxi to persuade him that moving back home is not the only option for him.

argentinians are a funny race, they are always homesick, for spain or italy
ha ha ha ha !
I guess its becomin a pattern…. lets hope Messi gets homesick also… ah ah ah
Shibashis wats up
Good luck with that Maxi
what on earth makes you think he commands any fee? LFC bought him for 1.5M GBP. its not like he’s improved since then. also, he’s got like 2 years left on his contract (no big difference from when we got him) but he’s also older. at 30 years old, that’s not much leverage.
besides, he would need suitors for LFC to be able to put a price tag on him. at best we would re-coup this amount.
based on the focus on younger players, LFC would probably be happy just to get his wages off the books.
maxi, please think 2 times before moving or speaking, if you are at a club must not think of another club, just reds not else
Art…you are a complete moron and I’m sick to death of reading posts like yours.
Of course he demands a fee, we’re not in the business of giving players away for free and considering his age and ability we should get at least double what we paid for him.
Thank god idiots like you don’t run the club or perhaps they did and they just went back to Texas!
Double we paid for him?
2 x 0 = 0 my friend.
Take whatever we can get for him – he’s doing us a favor with the request
If maxi decides to go then i wish him all the best fantastic player. hopes he stay. YNWA Maxi!
fantastic uh? get d feelin u only watched him play 5 times last season.
good luck ….
