A Big Reason behind the appointment of Kevin Keen

|

After finishing his playing career at Macclesfield in 2001, he returned to West Ham as a youth coach in July 2002. During his time working with the youngsters he brought through the likes of Glen Johnson, Mark Noble, Anton Ferdinand, Jack Collison, James Tomkins and Freddie Sears. He continued in this role for 5 more years before becoming first team coach in June 2007.

Keen was therefore an integral part of the coaching setup when Gianfranco Zola and Steve Clarke arrived in 2008. Clarke must have been impressed enough with his abilities to recommend him to Dalglish and he obviously believes that the 44 year old could offer something different to the coaching staff.

Clarke is generally assumed to be the brains behind the Reds defensive organisation, and with Dalglish being focused on man management, somebody else is needed to infuse the team with some organisation going forward. Keen could very well be that man, and combined with his experience of working with youngsters (an integral part of Liverpool’s future plans), the appointment seems to be a very shrewd one.

  • Shaun says:

Wanted Jan Molby to help the influx of Central mid players, but I wish Keen the best of luck! I’m suprised that we didn’t look at bringing back Paco because he was so integral in our 2nd place a few years back!

  • Al says:

Shaun we finished second in the 2008/9 season

Paco Herrera left LFC in 2006
Pako Ayesteran left LFC in 2007 and went on gardening leave for a year.

Which Paco are you referring to? Sammy Lee was Rafa’s assistant for the year we came second.
