How Liverpool FC Got Back On The Right Track

|

Just when all hope seemed lost, things started to change. Fernando Torres decided to switch colors – and loyalties – and FSG wasted no time in bringing Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll as replacements. This very much signaled their intent – the new owners were open to change and had cash to burn. Thus, as the season drew to a close, expectations set in January were exceeded. Things were already shaping up. Luis Suarez set the world alight by showcasing his immense talent in the Premier League right from the word GO. Youth prodigies Jay Spearing, Jonjo Shelvey, John Flanagan and Jack Robinson also showed outstanding composure and skill.

Every team – no matter how great it is – follows a continuous cycle. When at the top, the team enjoys a successful spell. However, every team once in a while needs to rebuild. Some of their biggest stars either retire or move on to pastures new. Their dominance decreases and it takes a while before they can regain their stronghold on world football again. At that time, the team is at its lowest – at the end of a cycle. Liverpool has been rebuilding its squad for some time. It sure was slow and painful, but now it seems they have finally escaped from their hell. There is light at the end of a tunnel and the only way now is up.

To put all the summer activity around the Premier League into perspective, Liverpool has strengthened their squad greatly – whereas most of their rivals have failed to do so. Manchester United lost an instrumental figure in Edwin Van Der Sar and though they may have brought in David De Gea, his potential in the Premier League is still undiscovered. Phil Jones is an upcoming talent and cannot be considered as an impact player just yet. Ryan Giggs will be restricted to a bench role this campaign and the club have yet to find a suitable replacement for Paul Scholes. Though Ashley Young’s signing can prove to be an outstanding one. Chelsea on the other hand, have gone through wholesale changes in their management staff and have yet to make a move on the transfer market. With an aging squad and an untested manager, their future looks somewhat bleak. However, they can always count on Roman Abramovich’s financial capacity, if not his intellectual one. Arsenal and Spurs have become a “Selling Club” with countless reports linking some of their star players to moves away from the club. Both the London clubs have focused their intent on keeping their big name players rather than putting a mark on the transfer window. On the other hand, despite all the chaos surrounding Carlos Tevez, Manchester City are making all the right moves this summer.

To sum it up, as of last year, Liverpool were miles off the pace when compared to some of their rivals. However, as other clubs have taken steps backwards and with respect to the Manchester clubs, small strides forward, Liverpool have managed to take massive strides forward and though they might still be far off course, they are slowly but surely finding their feet again and come next year, they might well be right at the precipice of glory.

Whatever it is you’re smoking, send some over the Pond my way, LOL. We’re going to be in a dog fight with the Gooners for 4th. We don’t have the squad to compete with Utd or Desert City, not yet. Chelsea may be older, but they have the nut bag owner willing to shell out big money, and that has a quality of its own.

We’ve improved dramatically, IF we finish the window as strongly as we’ve started. We have enough to beat Arsenal to the last CL spot. KK is assembling a squad capable of flexibility and creativity to break down those bottom teams who keep 10 men behind the ball. They also have the physical strength to deal with the kick-the-lumps-out-of-you teams too. We’re a strong team, but if we have a consistent, strong season, we’ll still only take 4th.

marc d red, you are dull and fearful. We have a squad of above average player who have something to prove. That is the key to winning as B. Dortmund showed. It is easy to go from 3rd position to champions. You remove your smoke screen our current team of player and mgt came 3rd last time. They can win the league easily.
