Had Liverpool qualified for Champions League last term due to some odd miracle, the club would have had immense pressure on their shoulders to perform straight away. However, Kenny Dalglish now has the opportunity to buy players which would help achieve the club’s goal of a top four finish and some silverware in the form of domestic competitions, grooming young talent along the course of the season. Should Liverpool qualify for the Champions League this time around, they will be much better equipped to take on European teams and ensure European football for the years to come than they would have been last term.
Undeniably, the pressure that comes with European qualification is something Dalglish could do without – for the time being. The club is in a state of transformation and that added level of expectation might crumble the few pieces of the jigsaw Dalglish has put together in tandem with Damien Comolli and FSG so far.
Therefore, it is to Dalglish’s advantage that the club is without European distractions in these times of recovery and can focus solely on the Premier League. Moreover, as other clubs have European duties, they simply cannot afford to play full strength teams on a regular basis in competitions such as the FA Cup and the Carling Cup, an area Liverpool might choose to exploit. Winning silverware this year will greatly aid Liverpool on their road to recovery. More importantly, after investing heavily on new players, the club is now better equipped to mount a top-four charge than it was last year. All the summer signings the club has made this past month have proven themselves in the Premier League and their addition would definitely go a long way to strengthening the squad as a whole, rather than just the starting eleven.
It is for this reason that the fans need to be patient – they may have felt heavyhearted for missing out on the Champions League once again last year but on second thought, it might not have been the right time. Certain steps had to be taken to ensure Liverpool’s status as Europe’s elite for many years to come and consequently, Kenny Dalglish, Damien Comolli and FSG have laid out just the right plans to safeguard Liverpool’s future, albeit long term ones.

I personally do not think we will be in the CL next year. I just don’t think we have spent well enough, and not added enough real quality.
We’re also lacking 2 or 3 players primarily a sriker and a left back.
I had high hopes going into this window and find myself very disappointed thus far. Obviously if we bring in at least 2 quality players then my view may change.
United, Chelsea and Man City will undoubtedly be top 3 and I just cannot see us disloding Arsenal.
I agree with you but I do think we could take the 4th spot if Kenny gets a couple of decent defenders. We spent very badly, the only wise buy was Luis and Adam could do well and didn’t cost as much as the rest. Problem is if we get into the CL we don’t have a side to take it all the way. All we needed to buy was two wingers a decent striker and two defenders, don’t know why we went in for so many midfielders we have enough in our youth.

play him at anfield where he will get protection and he will be unstoppable, we have paid 18 million for a good player but this kid will be worth 80 million.
Come on lads!! Be positive!! Remember when Kenny took over, Carroll was injured and out for weeks. Torres was gone. Gerrard hardly played and the injury list was quite bad that Kenny had to draft in Kelly (who got injured against West Ham), then Flanagan and Robinson and Spearing. Yet, Liverpool beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, battered United, got a deserving draw against Arsenal at the Emirates and apart from the last two games were the form team in the Premiership. Kenny did this with a Liverpool side which most people thought were crap! (well they were under that retard Hodgson). So if Kenny can take a “mediocre” side and make them play like champions then just think what he can do with a side with Suarez again back on song, Gerrard firing on all cylinders a fully fit Carroll on the end of Downings cross and a strong tactically flexible bench. I also think you are under-rating the quality of Kenny’s signing too! Adam might not be an Alonso but he does have a good range of passing and he will again make us a threat from set-pieces (something we have not had in decades). Henderson is a only a young lad but he has a great “engine” and will definitely learn from Gerrard. So have some confidence and stop writing us off!! We are going to give Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal etc etc a good run for this money!! I actually think we will be top of the league by Christmas!!!
what are u talking about,chelsea is getting old,man u, they dont have the best team either and man city have manchini wich is what is not going to make them win the league.
go player by player with all the teams and even if we count the bench i think we have a big chance to fight not just for the top 3 even for the league.
if we compare with man u that were the champions last season position by position we are not that bad right now .
gk- reina/doni- de gea/lindergard… we have better gk.
lb/rb- glen,kelly,insua,aurelio- rafael fabio and evra… we have better lb and rb overal.
cb- carra,agger,skertel,soto.- vidic,ferdinand,smalling,jones… i called even there i think vidic is great but agger is better than ferdinand. vidic/carra-vidic. agger/ferdinand-agger. skertel/smalling-skertel. jones/soto- u figure.
cm- lucas,gerrard,meireles,adam,aqua.- carrik,gigs(wich thats where he played last season and most like next season)fletcher,anderson,gibson.clearly we have the cm battle won,not just with man u but with all the pl.
lm/rm/wingers.-downing,maxi,hendo,cole.-nani,park,valencia,young.- they win it.
cf-carroll,suarez,kuyt.ngog.- rooney,chicharito,berbatov,owen.- and again i call it even.
so if u check looks pretty even to me.

GK – I agree we have the best
LB/RB – you must be joking. Insua is woefully poor, Aurelio is ok but always injured. Kelly is good but needs more games. United win that one.
CB – you are raving mad. United have one of the best defences in the league and the best part of it is the CB combination. If you think Carra and Agger/Skrtel are better then you are clearly deluded and your view is massively biased.
CM – I agree, we have the CM spots won.
LM/RM/Wingers – United win hands down.
CF – United clearly win again. They have strength in depth whereas we have Suarez and Carroll. Ngog isn’t worth mentioning and Kuyt is a poor centre forward hence the fact he plays on the right. United win this too.
If anything this backs up my original statement about needing a CB, LB and Striker but, having looked at it, I would also sign another winger.

I agree with stevie G above, the signings will do well under kk, i do admit I’d have been more exited by bigger name signings (which could still happen) but its a team game + these players are good team players ,maybe getting a balanced team together instead of random players who don’t fit in into system, we need a lb cb dm rw/ fox in the box striker, then sell the 6-7 players I’m sure we will then we will b fine, there is still a whole month of window to go so people like Lee above need to stop being so negative before we’ve barely kicked a f*****g ball yet
I offer my unbiased, realistic view of the situation so far and I stick by it. It may seem negative to the blinkered among us but that comes as no surprise.
As I said, if we do bring in some quality additions before the window ends then my view will undoubtedly change.

also agree with stevie g. we have the players now to beat up all the teams in the bottom half of the table. LB AND CB still needed but so far i think KK has done well this summer.
