Time to prove them all wrong, especially those sneering critics

|

Some have raised question marks over the accquisition of Downing from Villa for that price. I’ve personally had my moments, especially Raul Meireles was rumoured to be put up for sale. That, to digress momentarily, will (no perhaps or maybes) it WILL turn in to the same situation as Xabi Alonso.

He’s one of our best players at the moment, and managed to do something even Alonso failed to as a Liverpool player – turn Steven Gerrard in to a bit of a forgotten figure by taking control of the midfield in the skipper’s absence.

Getting back to Stewart Downing’s arrival at the Kop. Cynical and sneering articles on the Daily Mirror website, from an obvious Liverpool hater, probably not the way to welcome a shrewd signing: He brings to Anfield an educated left foot, but unfortunately his right foot is thick.

His right foot may be thick – firstly that’s debatable. There are worse users of their swinging feet. But Dalglish hasn’t signed him to display his supreme abilities at ‘keepy ups’. Downing has, over the last few years, excelled on the right wing position in a Adam Johnson and Ashley Young-esque manner.

Liverpool have people to play on the left – Rodriguez, Aurelio, and even Meireles (was used a number of times in that position by Dalglish last season and proved effective). Joe Cole wasn’t included in that list, because as much as I loved seeing him in a Liverpool shirt, he hasn’t performed to the level we saw him reach playing for Chelsea. If he stays next season, hopefully he’ll unleash what we know he’s capable of.

Fans just need to be patient and wait for the new season. You never know, things might come out all guns blazing, and the number of new signings might for once in the history of the club, click together. If that happens, and given Dalglish’s other impossible achievement of bringing the side together to play quality football from December onwards, it might be a sign of other more incredible feats to come to fruition at Merseyside.

In January We cashed in almost $50ml from Fernando Torres’ move to Chelsea.
    Is Adam’s price too high?
If £8ml is too much money, then We should not sign players.

In King Kenny we trust – enough said!

Will Kenny play all his new signings immediately? I dont think so, Downing? probably yes, Adam, Yes, and maybe Aquilani, but the players losing their place will be so important Mireles, Kuyt, Lucas, and Maxi are invaluable as part of the squad thats just to name a few, but the strength in depth is there and KK will use them all over the season.

  • good article from you i thougt as much as i can. Move on the good work (King Kenny).

agree about meireles. fine player. let’s hope he’s not wasted out of position, or sold, in preference to some overpriced midder with less ability.

I find u a bit disrespectful towards King Kenny! And that thing u said about hoping all transfers clicking for the 1st time in our history, just look back to Kenny’s last tenure!

I notice a few people saying in response “In Kenny We Trust”, well the same was said with Rafa for his last season, and we know what happened. The only thing that Abhijan has done here is try to keep expectations at a reasonable level, and yet someone cited Kenny’s first tenure, in terms of how the transfers will click.
Thing is, back in Kenny’s first tenure, you had time for transfers to click as you could lose 6 games a year and still win the league. Few years ago, Rafa lost just two and still came second.
Give Kenny time, yes, but don’t follow him blindly like sheep.

    • Saif says:

Only reason Lpool didn’t win the title then was that they drew too many games! Besides, that season was an exceptional one as we’d the record no of points as a runner up!
