The other option is of course Scott Dann. Birmingham City have some financial problems at the moment, and will surely be desperate to offload Dann before the end of the summer. Fees north of £10million, which they were rumoured to be asking for earlier in the summer, now seem unlikely and they would probably settle for a deal around £7-8million. The 24 year old is a Liverpool fan, and he would certainly pick the Reds over our Premier League rivals, but it remains to be seen if Kenny Dalglish is convinced of the player’s abilities.
With the departure of David Ngog looking likely, the Reds must also consider looking at another striker signing. Having only Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez and Dirk Kuyt to last you through an entire season is not ideal, and a cut price striker will surely be under consideration. Hugo Rodallega and Kevin Doyle have both been linked but by far the most surprising link is with Craig Bellamy.
I am great admirer of the Welsh striker as a footballer but at 32 years of age, he would only be a short term solution and there are other players on the market, such as Diego Forlan, who are available at the same age. We were looking at Connor Wickham earlier on in the summer so it would be sensible to go and look for another young striker who has a good future ahead of him. Everything does of course depend on how much Liverpool have to spend. Who do you think should be our two targets?

One thing to note on this. If we are reducing the player wage bill then why should you think that as 2 men are going out ( and therefore off the bill as required) 2 new men be brought in? This surely is NOT wage reduction simply changing faces if that was to happen. I can believe the 2 will leave but not that they will be replaced by others.

Chambers, at least 2 players are coming in. Probably Coates and 1 other, a striker/winger, Aquilani is heading to AC milan, Pacheco off to Spain, Cole probably QPR and Poulsen to whoever wants him. As I said at least 2 more with come in you can be sure of that.
Or, Poulsen to whoever is (really stuck!) for a midfilder.
definitely cahill and I would’ve gone for shane long, however now, out of them all, i’d probably plump for rodellega. alternatively, the young lad emnes has looked an exciting prospect for a couple of years now and has got off to a flyer this season!

Bellamy has already proved Raffa wrong – in buying him in the first place!
Foxy has it 50% right, Coates is coming, Suarez has played a major role in the deal that has seen Coates refuse concrete offers from Arsenal and Man City. That is fact. Deal will be between £10M and £12M. This guy is the real deal. Good technique, good pace (perhaps not best acceleration), good, strong defensive attributes and he is only 20.
A striker is coming in but just as the Kuyt rumours are wide of the mark, so are the Bellamy and Rodellega rumours. There is almost a deal done but it is too early for me to release that name into the public domain. Trust me though, you will like it if you are a Liverpool fan. Both deals should be complete by the end of the weekend by the latest.
Others to leave, well not too many surprises here, I am not exactly breaking new news here, Ngog will join Bolton in the next 48-72 hours for £3-5M-£4.5M, Aquilani will join Milan in the same timescale for between £5M and £7.5M, Poulsen will PROBABLY go for £1.5M to FC Copenhagen and Joe Cole is going to Spurs for about £2.5M which may seem like peanuts but that is because of his high wages. If Degen refuses the deal on the table from QPR, I am told he will be released (which puts him in a worse bargaining position regarding wages).

You are spot on. Bellamy does not. It proves Kenny sees Dann as a gamble both on his ability at the highest level and injury wise – it was a bad one he had. Bolton would not budge on Cahill and his price was too high for his age – Coates is a better option imo.

I think you’ll find there will be at 3/4 more to go following the departure of Soto. Aqua’s transfer is iminent, Cole & Poulsen to follow. N’Gog will go if & when a suitable replacement is found. We will only get 2 in.. CF/RW & CD. That should be a reduction in the wage bill.
You are pretty much correct Moocher. I think Chambers is forgetting to add in departures that have already occurred and ones that are in the process of occurring – there has and will be a significant reduction in the anfield wagebill. The first team squad will see a reasonable reduction but the biggest save occurring is the removal of dead wood – see othera like El Zhar, Soto etc. None of these were on small money. Degen is on 55K pw beleieve it or not. What is even more astonishing is that when Degen went out on loan last year ALL those wages were covered. In terms of people not playing regulary these will be a drastic reduction in the wage bill. Fear not.

@Shibashis – I am for real in that I am here yes, I am NOT the Phil Thompson you perhaps think I am but the information provided is as accurate as I can give at this time based on some contacts.
There is a debate regarding whether the Aquilani deal will be a loan or permanent purchase – Liverpool would rather sell, Aquilani would rather a permanent deal also but Milan would rather loan with a buy clause. The Aquilani deal, if outright purchase will be in the range said earlier but if a loan will be a loan with a difference – one where Milan MUST buy after a set number of appearances – this would probably be under 30 appearances, hopefully a permanent deal can be ironed out – Milan are trying to get Aquilani as cheap as possible but I hope Liverpool stay strong and there is every indication they will as they know how good a player he really is – remember how they stood firm over Torres. Milan’s desperation for Aquilani or a player of such ilk will force a deal of sorts but whether its a buy now or loan and must buy when X appearances made (may see another million or so added to price for inconvenience if Milan take that route), only time will tell. Just now it is 60-40 in favour of permanent deal. It is 100% that he is going and he will be a Milan player.
Well Phil, whoever your contacts are and even if you are not THE Phil Thompson (!) I hope what you put in these pages are true, because they all are good news for our club. This summer has been a dream compared to a couple previously, and I am beginning to admire the new owners for their meticulous systematic approach. It has been a while before I could say with confidence that we are moving in the right direction and with some acceleration.
Wages scandal:
Jovanovic, El Zhar, Degen, Konchesky, Poulsen, Cole, Aquilani, N’gog are/were on wages that total around an astonishing 450K+ per week. Come the end of the transfer window,Liverpool will have saved approx 500K per week from dead wood/departures. The players signed so far (and the 2 coming by the end of weekend) will take about 250-300K of that saving back up – which leaves an astonishing saving of some (approx) 200K pw in effect saving Liverpool some 10.5M pounds over the course of the year.
Credit needs to go to our new owners who have been true to their own words – have delivered MORE than they promised in terms of team investment. If Liverpool make it into top 4 this season then we may be looking at a couple of marquee signings next summer.
Btw, in training, Enrique and Downing have impressed the most and Carroll looks fitter than he ever was at Newcastle – just needs some time for his head to settle but Kenny will take care of that.
Maybe we could loan Henderson to some club, Wigan maybe, and get a striker back, Rodallega maybe.
