5 Encouraging Signs to Take from the Arsenal Game

|

3) Squad Depth – Liverpool’s two substitutions had a tremendous impact on the game with both Suarez and Meireles playing integral parts in both goals. In addition the absence of the like of Joe Cole from the bench, not only indicates that the 30 year old’s future lies elsewhere, but also that King Kenny can afford to leave the likes of him out of the squad entirely for other players.

4) Possession – One of the 5 crucial areas I talked about on Friday, Liverpool did have more possession than Arsenal. It is a rarity at the Emirates but it was a combination of good ball retention from the Reds and the Gunners much famed swift passing being neutered by the lack of first team players. The likes of Ramsey and Frimpong did not retain the ball very well, and allowed the Reds a foot hold in the match, one which they took full advantage of.

5) Pressing – Although it wasn’t always present against Gunners, with both Frimpong and Nasri, allowed to make forward runs to have long range efforts on goal, the Reds did press in Arsenal’s own half and Wojciech Szczesny was forced to go long on quite a few occasions, forcing Arsenal to give up possession more readily than they usually do.
