Moreover, as this will be our last pre-season game, I expect Dalglish to put out his strongest possible line-up.Valencia will by far be the toughest opponents we will come across in all our pre-season fixtures and with that in mind, I expect Dalglish to take the game seriously – and not as an opportunity to gamble and experiment.

Furthermore, as the game against Valencia comes just one week before the Premier League campaign gets underway, I expect Dalglish to play the same system against Valencia as he would play against Sunderland in our opening fixture. This might give a clear indication as to how our team might shape up come the start of the new season and how we play against Valencia will strongly highlight our weaknesses and strong points. As the new season kicks off with a bang with Sunderland and Arsenal being our first two fixtures, the squad will barely have time to rest and hence, it is against Valencia that their fitness and match sharpness levels will have to improve.

However, what happens on Saturday will only be an indication as the real deal starts when the Premier League kicks off. The Valencia game will in no way define how the next campaign will pan out but it will certainly be a preview of what Dalglish has in his mind as well as a last opportunity to iron out some of the mistakes and get the team in the right shape for the new season.
