Let’s Not Make The Same Mistake As Two Years Ago

|

Insua was plainly asked to play too many matches that season despite a lack of experience, and his performances were slated by many fans, who felt he was not yet up to the task of being a first team regular. Although Johnson could be utilised at left back this season, if the Reds do not get another left back, we could be left with the same situation as two years where an inexperienced player (i.e. Jack Robinson) is asked to play too many matches, stopping the 17 year old’s progress in its tracks.

For both the benefit of the development of the supremely promising Robinson and the sake of Aurelio’s frail body, the left full back position must be shored up before the end of the transfer window. I know I keep banging on about this but I cannot stress the importance enough about how this could affect our season.

A new senior left back is essential for the solidity of our defence and to have a consistent backline which can work well together. 2 years ago, the lack of defensive solidity proved the club’s undoing as they failed to build on the second place in the 2008/09 season. Let’s not make the same mistake as two years ago.

Why oh why can’t we keep him fit? That way we don’t NEED another back.

good article, of all the reported targets my preference would be marcel jansen

yes he can be a class act on his day, but how many of them days have we seen? hes injury prone and Rafa had the right idea to let him go.

Liverpool couldn’t build on the second place because we sold Xabi and did not replace him. Moreover the squad lacked in depth. However I agree with you re the left back issue. Even if we could loan Bridge he could make a decent job.

how many left backs do we need? if aurelio plays 16 games (his average per season apparently), robinson and johnson can play the rest. buying enrique is short sighted as it would stop robinson’s progress.
