It Typifies The Clear Strategy Present At The Club

|

Unlike Redknapp, Dalglish doesn’t have to worry as much about scouting players, considering how they would fit into the team, and then looking to bring them in. King Kenny has Comolli to do many of these aspects while the Scot has the final say on who he brings in.

That is not to say that Comolli and Dalglish alone dictate what transfer policy the Reds have, and as they have both mentioned, the owners have been pretty involved with things. Buying young players with good re-sale value was certainly a strategy pushed by FSG and you only have to look back at one of John Henry’s tweets to know this:

“Speculation on players shouldn’t include those of a certain age. We are not going to be successful by merely filling short-term needs at LFC.”

The average age of 25 for those players coming in (compared to an average of 28 for those leaving the club) is testament that FSG have certainly influenced the buying process. It is important to emphasise too that this can only be a good thing.

A unity of purpose in any organisation, including a football club, is essential for progress to made. The owners, the Director of Football, the manager and the coaches all the way down to youth level are subscribing to one philosophy, and it is great to see that the Reds are looking to progress in one direction on and off the pitch. How different this is to the previous regime.

Almost surreal when you compare the present to the past few years.

I was pleasantly surprised when we re-signed Bellamy. I thought he would have been out of bounds due to his age (32). But if this shows a willingness to be flexible within the bigger picture then I’m all for it i.e. use him as an impact subsitute etc etc

Also I wonder if Rafa would have fitted in well with FSGs strategy? As he probably has his own way of doing things and probably would have not liked someone like comolli having control over certain areas. I cant help but think that this would have caused friction.

Thats why its best to support Dalglish 110% and be grateful that “the Liverpool way” of doing things has taken hold again.
