The THREE Players I would pick up top v Spurs

|

Needless to say that Suarez, Downing and Bellamy all have a great deal of speed and if there is one thing you need against top opponents; it is the ability to break with speed. Especially away from home against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Spurs, you are not always going to have the ball, but when you do get it, you must be able to counter attack and punish the opposition for losing possession and get in space using pace. The three would be an ideal combination for this purpose.

In addition, another element to winning against the top sides, or any Premier League team for that matter, is the fluidity of movement. Dalglish played 4-3-3 against Arsenal away but with a static Andy Carroll in the middle and a lack of support, the Reds attack look pretty blunt until Suarez and Meireles came on. With Bellamy, Suarez and Downing combining, things would be a lot different. The fact that Downing is nearly as comfortable on the right as he is on the left, while Suarez can play in all three forward positions in a 4-3-3 means we already have a great deal of movement, even without Bellamy.

Add the Welshman into the mix though and any defence will have trouble defending against it. Bellamy could pop wide left, in the middle and wide right, providing width and crosses, Suarez the same while Downing could easily switch wings when it pleases the manager. Will Kenny consider this style going into the match against Spurs on Sunday? We will have to wait and see.

Agreed, however I push Carroll up front with Kuyt coming off the bench. It’s time to give Carroll the confidence to show his talents. And trust me, Carroll will come good. The lad is still just a kid and requires some time, just as Rooney did when he went to ManU

I think Carroll will definatly come good given time, but a good start is paramount if we want to have a successful season. Playing in form players is the only way this is going to e acheived. I think Carroll needs to be eased in to take the pressure off him abit.

Bench: Doni, Coates, Aurelio, Hendo, Carroll, Spearing, Maxi

Red Burns, spot on. I might replace Skrtel with Coates but that’s about it. YNWA

I was thinking the same but I think Coates will probably be getting his debut against Brighton. Despite his undoubted ability, young players (particularly centre backs) need to be introduced gradually. I’m not sure sticking him in at the deep end against the likes of Spurs, who on their day boast a potent attacking force would be wise! Can’t wait to see him in action though!
