THREE Players who should start the Merseyside Derby

|

Another player who really needs to start at the weekend is Craig Bellamy. Now, I know a lot of people are not particularly keen on Bellamy because of his personal problems and reputation but while I don’t like that side to him I think his character and ability easily make him a starter. He would obviously take Andy Carroll’s place but I think Carroll should have to make do with as an impact player for the time being, until he hits a bit of form and scores a few more goals. Bellamy is capable of producing the goods instantly and has previous experience in games like this.

Another player I think should play in this match from the off is Maxi Rodriguez. Again: not everybody’s cup of tea but he is another hard worker and willingly tracks back whether on either flank or playing through the middle and contributes well going forward too and given his mobility, he may be a better choice than Charlie Adam in a tense affair such as this.

As much as I’d rather see Gerrard start, it is clearly far too soon and I’d hate to see him scythed down by a duffer like Neville after months of rehabilitation because we pushed him back into the starting line-up a game too early. Instead, our captain should be kept in reserve until the final 25 minutes, just in case we need a massive boost of confidence and/or energy for a final push. I think with these three reintroduced to the starting line-up we definitely have the team to come through comfortably at Goodison Park on Saturday morning.

Just let the MANAGER get on with it.

    Luis
    Dirk
Stewart – Charlie or Steven – Craig
    Lucas
    Jose – Martin – Jamie – Martin
    Pepe

20 to 25 mins of football required. 3-0 up and then it’s all about keeping possession and tracking back. :)))))

Kuyt and Bellamy, yes. Maxi, no. I’m pretty sure Everton will give Rodwell the task of marking Suarez man to man like how he marked Silva agaisnt City so I think the extra tenacity from either Bellamy or Kuyt will be needed. It would be harsh to drop Carroll after his performance against Wolves. He seemed really up for it and worked his socks off. It would give a wrong message on many accounts. I think either one of Kuyt or Bellamy should play in place of Hendo with Kuyt being my personal preference. Bellamy’s volatile personality is the thing that concerns me. Also, I’d refrain from starting with Adam. High tempo games where every player needs to work non-stop is not in Adam’s comfort zone. I’d go with either Aurelio (I think he played DM against Stoke at Anfield) or Spearing to partner Lucas in the centre. Regarding Maxi, he’s hit or miss. I’ve always rated him as a good player (even in his initial struggle in England) but he has a tendency to go AWOL in games and sometimes he can do a Carrick. Will be a tight contest but I think we’ll just nick it 2-1.

Hey roger bang out of order!if we as fans cant help to show kenny the error of his team selection
then their is no point coming on these sites ok?
now i agree with pedro we need kuyt, bellamy, and
possibly spearing if kenny wont start gerrard,if henderson and adam start this game then it is very possible that we will get hammered as the defence is very dodgy at the minute and poor lucus
is doing the job of three players, because henderson is like a girl and adam cant tackle to
    save his life.

Spearing should come in to central midfield to partner Lucas. Adam should be pushed further forward to play in the middle of the three behind Suarez as the lone striker. Kuyt should play on the right of the 3 and Downing on the left of the three in a 4-2-3-1 formation. There is no point in playing Kuyt as the lone striker as Distin and Jagielka would be too strong for him physically. Having Suarez as the lone striker moving out to the left as he does would create space on the edge of the area for the likes of Adam to shoot from like he did against Bolton.

For the rest of the season if Johnson and Agger ever get fit the starting eleven in most games in a 4-2-3-1 should be Reina,Kelly,Coates,Agger,Enrique,Lucas,Spearing,Johnson,Adam,Downing and Suarez. The subs should be Carroll,Bellamy,Gerrard,Kuyt,Henderson,Carragher and Doni. Johnson would be on the righthand side of the 3 and Downing on the lefthand side of the 3 but they would be able to switch sides if necessary. Pushing Johnson higher up the pitch would help to limit the danger to both his and Kelly’s hamstrings. Pushing Adam further forward away from central midfield will allow him to use his attacking ability more and with Agger in central defence he could act as the defacto playmaker in Liverpool’s buildup play from the back. Liverpool need to stop humping balls forward to Carroll whenever he plays as he is better on the ground then people think and not as good in the air as people had thought. Putting Spearing back in alongside Lucas will protect the defence more and stop the midfield from being overrun.
